Subaru Viziv STI Performance Concept Loosely Hints At Next WRX

Subaru wants to lure visitors at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon to its stand with a new concept car, the Viziv Performance STI.

The study builds upon last year’s Viziv, albeit with some styling changes made all around, with the most significant one being the large wing added to the boot.

Look closer and you will also see a tweaked rear diffuser made from carbon fiber, new side sills, reshaped front bumper with larger air intakes and STI branding, and a slightly modified grille. Emphasizing its sportier stance are the red accents applied to different parts of the exterior.

The rest of the car, though, appears to have remained untouched, but then again, at the time of writing, Subaru hasn’t treated us with an official press release, so the live images are all we’ve got.

Nevertheless, the new Subaru Viziv Performance STI is said to preview the next generation WRX STI, but knowing that the Japanese car marque tends to drastically tone down its concepts for production, this one will likely follow the same route.

Expected to arrive within the next few years, the upcoming Subaru WRX STI is believed to drop the current 2.5-liter Boxer engine and replace it with an entirely new unit. Some say that electrification might be on the table too, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Looks great. Too bad the production model won’t look nothing like it and will look just okay.

    • Bo Hanan

      -and everybody knows it too.

      My thoughts exactly.

Just bring back that 2013 concept and it will be perfect ! We don’t need more concept…

    • SteersUright

Nothing can say what pictures can show. Well done on this post!

    Man! If only…

  • Rahul Patel

Really Subaru? Do you recall the concept for the current generation?

  • Well only time will tell if they stay true to the concept.

    • Belthronding Tinuviel

      no they don’t.
We all can say it either:)

      Don’t get your hopes up.

A concept is just like a drawing! You can do what ever you want but then comes reality!

  • marcin

There is just no point in looking at Subaru concepts 😉

    • Toronado_II

      You’re right. Why even bother…

Carbon fiber trim (and wheels) worth more than the car.

You know it’s sad when your concepts are more exciting than your production models. Don’t expect it to look anything like that.

  • CarbonPhiber

Best we can hope for is that Hot Wheels makes one of these. Otherwise we’ll never see it. I just traded in my boring Subaru. Screw them. See ya.

    • LWOAP

      Which model was it?

      • CarbonPhiber

Newer Legacy sedan. Looked good, tons of room inside, amazing grip. Uncomfortable seats. Poor steering. Poor handling. CVT smooth, but horrible choice for enthusiasts. Did not enjoy driving it. Zero fun.

If you want to imagine what the next generation WRX would look like, just look at the current Impreza.

  • SteersUright

Why even show any WRX Sti concept cars at all, especially this old one that already been shown multiple times already?? They never, ever, never look anything like their concepts and can fully be expected to be very capable, smartly priced, and ugly as all hell inside and out (Im seriously hoping to proven wrong). Lastly, if we see that same old 2.5L Boxer 4 in the Sti they should expect to be laughed at by every major auto publication. The current Sti was utterly let down by its powertrain. A modern Sti should have 400hp+ and a proper lightning fast dual clutch (at least on par with PDK) setup.

This looks really good but will never come close to production as it is not conservative enough. Too bold and exciting for the 70 year old tree hugger Subaru customer.
