This Is Blasphemy: Ferrari Will Make An SUV After All!

“You have to shoot me first”, said FCA’s CEO Sergio Marchionne a couple of years ago, when asked whether Ferrari would ever build an SUV.

In the meantime, things have changed, and Marchionne told journalists at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show that Ferrari’s plans now include an SUV, or FUV (Ferrari Utility Vehicle) as he referred to it, AutoExpress reports.

The FCA CEO didn’t go into specific details, but made it clear that “it will look like whatever a Ferrari utility vehicle needs to look like”, adding that “it has to drive like a Ferrari”, too.

By the end of this year, Ferrari will be debt-free, and so an SUV will bring in more profit for the Italian automaker, mostly from Asian markets, including China, while also helping them sell more than 10,000 units annually.

From the Porsche Cayenne to the Bentley Bentayga, the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Lamborghini’s Urus, the Ferrari SUV has enough rivals to tackle. However, the Prancing Horse’s future vehicle “has not been made to compete with Porsche”, according to Marchionne, which means its main competitor will be the Urus.

    Sergio is completely confused.
    Nothing to say more.

    • Michelin

Only stupid people don’t change their ideas in life.
And Sergio is not a stupid man !!!

      • exeptor

Now try to apply this thought to everything in your life. Embrace the results.

      • supermanuel

He might not be stupid but he has no idea how to run a portfolio of automotive brands.

      • Belthronding Tinuviel

i wrote ”confused” ,not ”stupid”, but anyway, thanks.

plus,it seems that sergio does not have any idea about what is going on really,so he can not change any idea which never existed.

    • Bo Hanan

And you just know that Ferrari (and Lamborghini) don’t/didn’t want SUV’s but were forced to do them by new CEO’s. And the Ferrari team probably said FUV-U to Sergio when he told them to create an SUV and that’s where he got that from.

  • AxlRock

I thought we won’t have to see this rendering again after all those comments the last time, but here we are.

    • jsz00

Headlights do not match. No more renderings please.

      • Stigasawuswrecks

Imagine if it had the 488’s headlights? I shudder just thinking about it.

  • roy

Well we all saw that one coming

    • Shobin Drogan

I didn’t. I thought they’d be smart enough to make their first mass produced 4 door Ferrari to be an impressive super saloon, not a slightly raised hatchback.

      • roy

Well while your idea seems decent enough but sales number pretty much sealed the fate when it came to Ferrari building a FUV

  • Michelin

Funny rendering ! A Stelvio Body with Ferrari mouth.
I’m sure Ferrari style will be much better and sexyer than this pictures.

    • Innocuous

      Well, no shit.

  • ediotsavant

No surprise after Ferrari became publicly traded.

  • Leconte Dave

“You have to shoot me first”, said FCA’s CEO Sergio Marchionne . Find a gun

    • supermanuel

      Wishful thinking…

  • Jp

My friends, what’s going on? You already published this horrendous render on Jan 2…

    http://www.carscoops.com/2018/01/ferrari-suv-rendering-looks-hideously.html

    • JohnCarscoop

The story is about Sergio Marchionne confirming plans for a Ferrari SUV. It’s not about the render.

      • Jp

I see. Looks like I commented too quickly 🙂 Sorry about that

  • YUDHA BAGASKARA

is this gtc 4 lusso replacement?

    • No the Lusso will turn into luxurious GT like 612 Scaglietti, or since Lusso demands is quite high. They might have kept it.

  • Tumbi Mtika

Called his BS from the very start.

    • supermanuel

To be fair Tumbi, virtually every word that man utters is BS.

      • Tumbi Mtika

        Amen.

  • Predictable, it’s hardly a secret and also the rendering is a bad one. I don’t know why you guys are using it.

  • sidewaysspin

Never let blasphemy get in the way of business, but it will probably look good and nothing like that picture.

  • benT

“You have to shoot me first”
Still plenty of time before first production car………….

  • Bash

It’s about time… it’s gonna happen, sooner or later.

  • fabri99

I’m not going back to the whole awful-rendering situation, but…this is just ridicolous. The second picture is literally just an Alfa Romeo Stelvio. It only has Ferrari rims, that’s it. WHY? Why do you keep posting this kind of content? Either hire a proper rendering designer or get your renderings from one.

  • john1168

Of course they’ll make an suv. They want the money and almost everyone everywhere want’s an suv. And an suv with a Ferrari name on it will undoubtedly sell out.

  • BobV12

I could have FUV in the snow, FUV in the desert, go have FUV everywhere !

  • Vassilis

I don’t know if he will make the F1 team successful again but this move along with the production increase is not good.

  • jsz00

LOL headlights do not match comparing the first and second renderings. What a joke.

  • LWOAP

Take whatever that senile of fool says with a grain of salt. He changes his mind so many times you don’t know what to believe.

  • Jay

If Ferrari can make an SUV, then Jeep can totally make a low slung, mid engine v8 supercar. Who cares about brand values.

    • Tumbi Mtika

You joke, but the Jeepster concept exists.

      If there’s a will…

      • Jay

True though that’s still a crossover [offroader/sports car]. I meant more like Lambo Huracan rival. 😉

    • Lol and Autocar keep bringing rumors about “Road Rover”. Brand value is diminishing?

  • Alexandro Pietro

Now there are motivations to shot Marchioni because Ferrari -SUV is criminous!!!(For the History of the prancing horse ,of course!)

  • TheHake

As long as it helps to keep the Ferrari name alive and enable them to build stuff like the 812, I’m ok with it.

  • Six Thousand Times

    Yay… 🙁
