VW Expected To Remain World’s Largest Automaker For 2017

In-house Volkswagen estimates indicate that the German manufacturer has beaten out Toyota as the world’s largest automaker in 2017.

Autonews Europe indicates that the Volkswagen Group shifted approximately 10.7 million units last year while revenue rose to an all-time high of over 220 billion euros ($264 billion), slightly above the 217 billion euro ($259 billion) reported in 2016.

A spokesman from VW has declined to comment on the report but the company will publish its official 2017 group sales date on January 17.

Last month, Toyota said it expected to sell roughly 10.35 million vehicles worldwide in 2017.

    “In-house Volkswagen estimates”

In house estimates? Oh, yeah, it’s not like they haven’t lied before. How do we know they are not doing it this time? Ok, maybe I’m being a little too harsh. I’ll wait until I see that group sales date.

    • Eunos

That reference got old a long time ago. You’re not being clever here.

      • LWOAP

Not trying to be clever. I’m just being skeptical of VWs claims.

    What about renault-nissan-mitsubishi

    • alexxx

      Was just thinking the same

    • Interesting because when I see OICA data, they separate Renault and Nissan, if combine they can be in the top 3.

  • VW, like Toyota and GM, is a prolific global manufacturer and they are most likely the top tier. They do make the Bugatti Chiron after all…

    • Сафиуллина-Мохамед Рамазанов

      VAG got 10 brands
      Toyota got 4

If Toyota take more percentage in either Mazda or Subaru or both they will be the top so easy

  • JR Glide

    VW = World’s No.1 FRAUD.

    • Was waiting for you to comment, glad you have new sentence.

    • TheHake

Suck on THAT! lololololol! Number ONE, baby!

  • Matt

VW Group have SO many brands. Toyota has about half of what VW owns. Obviously VW will win because they own Seat, Skoda, VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, MAN Trucks, Ducati Bikes. Toyota have Daihatsu, Toyota, Lexus and Hino Trucks. At least Toyota did it without that many brands. Toyota therefore are more successful.

    • Ary Wisesa

And not to mention it also did it without the need of committing the biggest fraud in automotive history.. You know…, that diesel cheating … 😉

  • Ary Wisesa

Is the “No-1 producer” title means so much to VW, so in order to achieve it they needed to commit the biggest fraud in the automotive history?

    • TheHake

      Well it worked, didn’t it?

  • Obsequious Lickspittle

Did they use a NOx smoke and mirrors tactic to come up with the numbers?
