2019 BMW Z4 And 3-Series Scooped Next To New Toyota Supra

It’s not usual for spy photographers to catch a convey of vehicles but our shooters were extra lucky today as they managed to snap the Toyota Supra as well as the next-generation BMW 3-Series and Z4.

The most interesting of the group is the Z4 prototype which appears to be virtually production ready. Previewed by a concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the road-going model has a familiar design but adopts a less aggressive front fascia with a more upright grille. The headlights also echo the concept but the air intakes appear much more conservative.

Continuing further back, we can see the roadster has been outfitted with vents behind the front wheels. The model also has L-shaped taillights, a dual exhaust system and a trunk with an integrated spoiler.

The prototype’s interior was covered by camouflage but previous photos have shown the model will have a three-spoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment system. Drivers can also expect a new center console which mimics the concept.

BMW has been tight-lipped on performance specifications but spy photographers have previously snapped a document which revealed there will be an s20i which is rated at 197 PS (145 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. Rumors have also suggested the model will be offered with a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine that has outputs of approximately 335 PS (246 kW) and 385 PS (283 kW).

The BMW Z4 is expected to go into production in November with deliveries to start early next year.

Rework the front and rear bumper on the Supra and it could pass off as a Z4 Coupe. Oh look, another niche for BMW to fill. Ok, I’m done.

I always thought the Supra was the Z4 Coupe that BMW decided to no longer offer and Toyota wanted.Just like the Infiniti Q50 Coupe is actually the 370Z 2+2 that Nissan stopped offering. The games car companies play…

  • Bo Hanan

Z4 looks nothing like the show car we saw last year. Actually looks more like the current 6-Series.

Supra will most probably dissapoint .. it’s an imasculated Supra..

    • javier

      330 hp lol

      • ErnieB

A real supra should have no less than 450hp- 500hp.. This is a celica!!

        • Vassilis

That wouldn’t be a real Supra, it would be your ideal Supra. The previous turbo version had 320 hp or so.

          • ErnieB

320hp back in 2000 is like 500hp today.. the 2018 mustang gt has 460hp.. doesn’t seem like a modern Supra would have less than 400hp..

          • Vassilis

That’s because cars are heavier. If the Supra weights less than 1500 kgr it doesn’t need 500 hp. It’s a sportscar not a supercar.

  • Jesse A. C. Majors

    That Z4 is everything. Wow

  • MultiKdizzle

wat how did you even take these pictures?

  • gordono

Ugly, conspicuous hoodline on z4. The prototype looked so good. I am sad.

  • 31/12/2999

Well the Supra didn’t get enough attention in this review.

  • GT

Door mirrors look like they might be the same on Z4 and Supra.

  • JBsC6

BMW Z4 convertibles have not really been ultimate driving machines but rather german crafted cruisers. I don’t believe at this point we are seeing a change in that market position. The Supra derivative seems very much like a Nissan 370 z competitor in a segment that’s really not too hot. I believe Nissan sells a bout 4K 370z s a year. I don’t expect much more from the new supra

    • ErnieB

      Agreed .. this is a 370z competitor..

  • SteersUright

Neither car appears to have beautiful proportions or silhouette. I hope this proves false when they’re revealed. Sports cars sell on looks as much as they do on all the other details. These won’t succeed if they aren’t good looking.
