BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe Concept Teased For Geneva

The countdown to the Geneva Motor Show continues as BMW has released the first teaser image of an upcoming concept.

The company didn’t say much about the car but the teaser image shows a sleek sedan which bears a passing resemblance to the Aston Martin Rapide. We can only make out a few styling details but the car has a long hood, a rakish windscreen and a coupe-like greenhouse. Elsewhere, there’s a massive spoiler and large alloy wheels.

Little else is known about the model but previous reports suggested BMW was going to use the show to introduce a new concept based on the M8. However, the teaser image looks like a more traditional concept which could preview the standard 8-Series Gran Coupe.

We’ll find out what the model is next week but if the concept is a preview of the standard 8-Series Gran Coupe it could be equipped with a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces around 445 hp (331 kW). On the other hand, if the concept previews the M8 Gran Coupe it could be packing a 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine with at least 600 hp (447 kW).

Regardless of what’s under the hood, the concept will be shown alongside a handful of other models including the all-new X4 and the facelifted 2-Series Active Tourer.

BMW must be doing well to be coming out with all of these variants of the same model.

They’re a lot more relevant than anything coming out of Subaru!!

Extreme bulshit. Let’s take the 6 series, now we will call it 8 (because we had a cult car in the past with that name) and we will pretend that it is higher class than 7 series (but most probably we will not use the V12 which is the Engine of the engines and is probably the most important thing that distincts cars). Now let’s go even further making the 8 series 4 door coupe (which is nothing more than a sleeker sedan) and we will ask more money for it. But I’m fine with that – these people wants to make money. Sometimes I do stuff like that in order to make some form of profit out of it. I wonder why people just grab all the bulshits. I guess comments like “who are you to judge people” might follow this comment, but I will just put this – Steve Jobs once said ” … People doesn’t really knows what they like or want. We will tell them.”. As seen this proves true and it doesn’t sound very optimistic.

I really feel like the upcoming 8 series will just be a new 6 series with a different name plate.

True, my thoughts exactly. Definitely from the size proportions. It definitely doesn’t complete with S-Class.

    • fathornyblackandjoe

I don’t think Steve Jobs ever said that.

      • exeptor

OK. You are right. I didn’t quote it correctly. This is the one – “A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.” . Probably not that harsh as the way I wrote it, but the idea is the same … more or less.

ure sir a “little bit” conservative, the evolution is here….if all the peeps thinkin like you…so i guess we still only have the horse carriage

  • bd0007

Even if exaggerated, the greenhouse looks great, but it’s the front-end where BMW designers have been messing up.

  • B.Stokes

The fact that BMW is even considering building an 8-Series Gran Coupe makes scared that the 8-Series will be just a re-branded 6 series and not an evolution of the 8-series from the past.

  • Bugatti Andrea Ettore

Alfa Romeo Gran Coupe, eso nunca llegará, incluido el sedán de tamaño completo, Alfa Romeo se rompe por la falta de más modelos. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Aston Martin been trying to Call BMW ever since they released this image, but BMW is not picking up.
