BMW X2 M35i Is A 300 HP Hot Hatch In Crossover Guise

BMW bills the X2 as a fun and sporty urban crossover and it appears the company is going to back up that claim with a new X2 M35i.

Recently spotted undergoing testing, the high-performance model has a familiar design as it apparently comes standard with the M Sport pacakage which includes a sportier front fascia and additional body-color trim. The crossover has also been equipped with the usual M styling cues including larger alloy wheels and an upgraded braking system with blue calipers. Our spy photographer also noted the dual exhaust system features larger tips than the standard model and had a more pronounced sound.

The interior should also receive some minor styling tweaks as the front backrests were covered in a likely attempt to hide M35i logos.

Power is expected to be provided by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that produces approximately 300 hp (223 kW). This would make the model significantly more powerful than the X2 xDrive28i which has 228 hp (170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. As a result, the X2 M35i should easily outperform the X2 28i which can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 143 mph (230 km/h).

They also need to make a 400 hp X2 M from that same 4 cylinder Turbo.
That would be dumb from BMW to let this market to the Audi RS Q3 and Mercedes AMG GLA 53.

Inline 6 not a 4 banger, and should be able to hit 60 mph in 5 secs.
I don’t think the article writer knows BMWs.
An X2 ///M would be very nice tho I think BMW is still gun shy about making an M out of everything.
For example, Merc sells a GLS-63 AMG. Pretty sure BMW has no plans for an X7 ///M.

I take it they will fix that ugly front end?

Why would it be M35i when the nomenclature has clearly moved to M40i? I guess you were looking for coments?
Either way an X2 M40i would be boss.

    • Cobrajet

Because M40i would denote that it is a six cylinder.

Those extra emblems are killing me!
