Whoever was behind the wheel of this black X5 sure did their best to reinforce certain stereotypes concerning BMW drivers.
It’s bad enough that some people tend to act foolishly when they’re in traffic, but to think that you can squeeze your SUV between two trucks at speed on a slippery road? That’s just nuts!
Unless there was a medical emergency and the driver of the X5 (probably an X5 M or M50d) was on his or her way to the hospital to scrub in and perform surgery, we can’t imagine many other scenarios where this type of careless behavior would be justified.
Even if you’re in a rush, you can just wait for the vehicle ahead to move, perhaps even honk or flash your lights if it is indeed an emergency. In this case though, the road conditions were very treacherous, and regaining control of a 2+ tonne SUV once you’ve lost it is pretty difficult even for skilled drivers.
As it often happens, one mistake was compounded into another and, as a result, the X5 clipped the box truck it was overtaking, sending it off the road where it ended up on its side.
We have no info whatsoever, but we sincerely hope that no one was seriously hurt in that accident.
