First Batch Of 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUVs Arrives In The USA

The first batch of US-spec Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUVs has arrived in the United States ahead of the model’s early March dealership debut.

The new Eclipse Cross will start from $23,925 MSRP in the base ES version. Power is provided by a turbocharged 1.5-liter petrol engine with direct injection producing 152hp and 184lb-ft (250Nm) of torque.

Mitsubishi will offer their Super All-Wheel Control system, which is integrated with other systems like the active stability control, ABS, and Active Yaw Control for a more precise torque split between the axles, as an option.

Meanwhile, customers will also be offered a power-sliding panoramic roof, heated rear seats, a seven-inch infotainment, a head-up display and, for the first time ever, Mitsubishi’s Connect services.

“2018 represents an exciting next chapter for Mitsubishi Motors, and the all-new Eclipse Cross is a large part of that story,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Mitsubishi North America. “The Eclipse Cross builds on the strong Mitsubishi heritage of automotive performance, technology and fun-to-drive dynamics revived in a CUV. We’re excited to add the Eclipse Cross to our established CUV lineup and know it will continue to fuel the brands current sales momentum.”

Mitsubishi’s Rogue Sport rival will slot right beneath the 2018 Outlander, which was also introduced recently at the company’s U.S. dealerships.

All models of the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be offered with a 10 years/100,000 miles warranty for the powertrain, 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, 7 years/100,000 miles anti-corrosion/perforation warranty and, finally, a 5-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance program.

Using the Eclipse name on a 1.5L 4 cylinder SUV seems like a sure fire way to piss off fans of the coupes from the past. And I think its a gimmick to get people into their showrooms, only to leave empty handed when they see what their beloved has become.

Well this, THIS is going to change everything for Mitsubishi!

    Or not. Don’t care really.

I have a soft spot for Mitsubishi but they don’t help themselves with cars like this and the awful Mirage. And using the Eclipse name is just stupid!

    Why is this news?

As a previous Eclipse owner all I can say is, gross…

  • antbee

I am supremely irked, that Mitsubishi had the unmitigated gall, to name this thing after one of its most iconic models. The Eclipse may not have been the best nor most powerful sports car, but it enjoyed a healthy amount of sales during its run, particularly the early to mid 90s.
