For $3.3 Million, Would You Get A Lykan Hypersport Or A Chiron, LaFerrari Aperta etc?

The Lykan Hypersport is an interesting car, for a number of reasons. Produced by little known Lebanese automaker W Motors, the car was made famous in Furious 7 and comes with a sticker price exceeding $3 million!

In a world full of custom Koenigseggs, Paganis, LaFerrari Apertas and Bugatti Chirons, that sum isn’t unheard of. However, for a company that has no heritage behind it like the aforementioned brands, such a figure is absurd.

As you read this, there is currently a brand new silver Lykan Hypersport for sale in Dubai. James Edition is listing it for $3.335 million. Only seven examples of the car were produced, but still, we don’t think it’s worth that much.

Powering the Hypersport is a 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine developed by RUF. Despite delivering 780 hp and 708 lb-ft of torque, it isn’t the most exotic engine out there, particularly compared to the V12s from Pagani, Lamborghini and Ferrari.

What’s more, it is impossible to see how the value of a used Hypersport can possibly increase in the future. By comparison, a used LaFerrari, which can be purchased for a similar price, will certainly appreciate in the future.

Now, we’re not ones to tell millionaires where they should or shouldn’t spend their money. In this case, however, we’ll make an exception and say the Lykan Hypersport is overpriced. Go buy a limited-run Ferrari instead. Then again, as the saying goes, you pays your money and you take your choice.

has there actually ever been a official road test of this car?

    • donald seymour

      Absolutely not.

    • Tumbi Mtika

      There’s been a sky test.

    • Nope, I doubt they even had a press car to retain.

  • Bo Hanan

I agree with you with one addition- I would add the submarine feature for deep sea fishing trips. Yes Sir!

  • Six_Tymes

damn perfect idea. 430 Scuderia is my fav

  • I’d take a 458 Speciale instead. It’ll be more iconic and classic than what these cars will be in the future.

  • An Existing Person

I’d rather have multiple great supercars than just one hypercar.

  • WELL IF I WERE HELD AT GUNPOINT TO SPEND MY LAST TREE MILLION I’D GO FOR A CHIRON, IT’S NOT SILLY LOOKING AND I IMAGINE IT’S MORE USER FRIENDLY ON A DAILY BASIS.
AND SINCE I’D BE HOMELESS IT’S PROBABLY BETTER SUITED AS A MAKESHIFT HOME.

    I really just want a Zonda F.

    • Tumbi Mtika

Oh my god, how did I forget that?

      I’d kill for a Zonda!

      • fabri99

EDIT: We all just want a Zonda.

    • I hope there are still unmolested Zonda S or F that hasn’t been “upgraded” to 760 specs….

      • fabri99

        Agreed. I don’t hate the 760, but I wouldn’t sacrifice a S or F for it.

        • Me too, but it seems to be a trend for older model to get refurbished into 760 🙁

  • Tumbi Mtika

Spend the money on a Ferrari J50 and McLaren 720S.

Put the rest in stocks and investments.

  • Six Thousand Times

Chiron for me. Beautiful work of art.

  • pcurve

Middle East’s answer to Vector M12. Except Vector actually sold a few copies.

    • Errrrr……. this comment is so wrong on so many levels that I don’t know where to start.

      • pcurve

Shall we start with level 1? I’m just curious.

        • Well M12 is an ancient rebodied Diablo in, let’s face it. Worse phase of Vector. And did I mentioned it came out like 20 years ago?

          • pcurve

You’re right… it’s not fair to compare the two cars directly, but there are a lot of parallel between the two companies’ effort. Vector was a cool looking car in its day with absurd pricing, multi-national effort, zero pedigree, and single digit sale.

          • Actually… which Vector we are talking? 80s Vector is all good, yeah they have absurd pricing but if you see the specs, W8 has a lot of advanced featured for it’s day. Unlike Saleen or Panoz, 80s Vector was totally Americans. And they actually make dozens of that.

Of course M12 is whole different thing, Wiegert is removed by hostile takeovers by some Indonesians which include son of a dictator, they happened to own Lamborghini too so the cheapest way is take a Diablo and rebodied… and making it worse on the way.

  • Those two are sky rocketing already, so you probably miss the early train.

  • Let’s face it, that thing is expensive because of the diamonds in the headlight. And it’s hardly Middle East car, engine from Germany and assembled in Italy.

For me, there is a lot of classic cars I can get for that price. Much better in so many levels.

    • thunder bolt

If I remember correctly, the engine was from Volvo V6 Turbo(s), not sure how many Turbo.

      • That’s really far off, it’s actually RUF flat six 3,7 twin turbo.

  • homemark

I’d buy a Lykan – and park my Chiron in the Lykan’s panel gaps.

  • Nordschleife

I’d get a house, retire and an buy an Aston Martin.
