Boasting a fresh exterior with low-slung proportions, short overhangs and a mean stance, the 2018 X2 can hope to offer BMW‘s UK customers something the X1 never did: a good-looking compact SUV.

Munich’s latest crossover is now available for order, with pricing starting at £33,980 OTR for the xDrive20d SE, and BMW expects to shift around 6,000 units in the UK this year.

Buyers opting for Sport, M Sport and M Sport X models will enjoy full-LED headlights as standard, while the latter two specs are also available with wheel sizes upwards of 20-inches. Meanwhile, standard rims for the entry-level SE model are 17-inches in size, with a V-spoke design.

Both SE as well as Sport models receive black cladding on the side skirts, whereas M Sport X version gets Frozen Grey cladding. As for the rear, M Sport bumpers feature a diffuser-look cladding inlay in Dark Shadow metallic, whereas the M Sport X gets a bespoke diffuser insert in contrasting Frozen Grey.

Inside, while standard equipment on the SE trim includes contrast stitching on the instrument panel and a high-gloss black center console, M Sport models come with a Micro Hexagon fabric Anthracite/Alcantara combo upholstery, boasting M piping in blue or yellow with contrast stitching on the instrument panel and the center console. The SE also gets a 6.5-inch Touch Control Display with navigation, rear Park Distance Control and the rear-view camera with Vision Pack.

As for options, there’s the Driving Assistant that includes Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info with No Passing Info, anti-dazzle High Beam Assistant as well as Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function.

Only one engine will be available at launch, the xDrive20d with a 2.0-liter diesel producing 190 PS and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque and, as its designation shows, all-wheel drive as standard. Further variants such as the sDrive20i, sDrive18d and xDrive18d will be added to the UK lineup later this year.
