Unless there was something terribly wrong with this old BMW 5-Series’ brakes, its driver should have never found themselves in this position.

Based on the traffic, it looks pretty obvious that the BMW was not just speeding, but doing so in the right lane, which sits exactly opposite to the passing lane in LHD countries. It’s a typical “I’m going to overtake everybody, little do I care about the law” move.

So the only thing that’s puzzling is the late braking. Was the driver that inattentive they didn’t notice the semi ahead? Especially when going that fast? It’s a strange scenario, not to mention an extremely dangerous one.

Had there been more room underneath the trailer and had the car been traveling faster, this crash could have ended in a truly gruesome manner. Thankfully, the driver managed to slow down sufficiently and the damage didn’t appear to extend anywhere past the front axle.

In the end, by using common sense, we could say that it’s perhaps unlikely the driver was distracted by their phone or anything that could have made them take their eyes off the road for such a long period of time. That sort of thing tends to happen when you’re not speeding and overtaking everybody, right? But then again, there are always exceptions.
