First Video Of Toyota GR Supra Concept Shows It In The Virtual World

After roughly 19 long years – it could be 16 depending on the way you count things – Toyota finally gave us a concrete look at the fifth-gen Supra’s design.

Sure, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Supra Racing Concept may just be a concept, but it’s not hard to visualize the road-going version of the sports car without things like the massive rear wing and ridged hood . And now, we have a video of concept in action – well, digitally at least.

Toyota put out a YouTube video on its account that sees the GR Supra Racing Concept go from a plain vehicle driving through city streets and what seems to be the Nurburgring, to then slowly being adorned with its badass livery.

But even more importantly, if you have sensitive ears that are capable of drowning out the music, the video provides a few aural cues as to what the car might sound.

While the Supra probably won’t come with a manual gearbox, the sports car is rumored to get a turbocharged inline-six engine. From what we can pick up, the car does sound as if its powered by a six-cylinder motor. For those with better ears than mine, the best part is from 1:12 to 1:20.

Since Gran Turismo recently announced that the GR Supra Racing Concept would makes its way to Gran Turismo Sport, we have a sneaking suspicion that Sony and Polyphony lent a helping hand at bringing the concept to life in the digital world.

For enthusiasts out there who have a PS4 and a copy of Gran Turismo Sport, you’ll be able to drive the concept in April. For everyone else, we’ll have to wait until 2019 to see the road-going version of the Supra.

  • Dr Strangefinger

‘Supra’ means Claw of Fire in its native Japan (So I was told).

  • ErnieB

    I am sold!

    • Moveon Libtards

Don’t get too excited by the video game version. Toyota tends to let us down when it comes to sporty cars.

  • Craig

It’s a mess. But almost everything Toyota makes these days is.

    • Chad L

Remember when people here were raving about the concept? My how times have changed.

      • Infinite1

Agreed, I still like the design myself though.

  • Agu.55

I cannot say it is ugly, but certainly not a beautiful car

  • Bash

A car that will exist in the near future but no one knows exactly when, in a world that does not exists.. I like the video but I’m not sold tbh.

  • Zandit75

Pretty sure all that footage is from GranTurismo. The city footage looks like one of the tracks that’s been in the game since the start.

    • Agree, and seems Polyphony has some exclusive relationship with Japanese manufacturer. I wouldn’t surprised if this one is made by them.

  • Bo Hanan

    Toyota Supra!
    Brought to you by BMW.

  • Chad L

Looks like a melted last generation Toyota Supra

  • Ary Wisesa

The rear reminds me to Chrysler Viper

  • Moveon Libtards

And only possible because they had to work with BMW to get it done. Toyota, the massive corporation, needed BMW to finally build a two-door sports car again.

  • Major Lee Gassole

Yawn. It’s just a Forza intro video, and not a very impressive one. I’m so sick of the delays. Show the car in production form, not as a race car that no one is going to own. And give the price already. Not like I’m going to rush out and buy one, but they could have already started selling these instead of these constant delays. There has been so much hype about the car that everyone is finally going to say, “Meh,” once they show what you can buy and for how much.

  • Oh man Toyota won’t stop trolling us about Supra is it?

    • Infinite1

      I know right?

  • Infinite1

Teasing us constantly with concepts and videos… Come on Toyota, bring out the Supra already.

  • Tinky-Winky

I’m actually surprised that Toyota has retatined so much of the original FT-1 concept.

  • Thanks mate, well I’m not that cool headed, some people here can really strained my nerves lol. And yeah I don’t want to offend you but for someone that comes from Indonesia, you are very well informed, what I don’t like about the internet culture there is lack of information, it’s very sad.

Yeah I get ya, but don’t worry, if you see me messages you like that, I don’t want to challenge you and all. Just a start of discussion. And well it’s a very well crafted messages but it’s internet so you are bound to see trolls and fanboys unfortunately.

Keep it up Ary, and are you going to Japan this year? Make sure to visit some of Automotive stuff there.
