This Jacked Up Fiesta Could Be A Test Mule For Ford’s ‘Baby’ Bronco SUV

Engineers at Ford have been spied testing what could very well be an early test mule of the recently-announced ‘baby’ Bronco. Either that, or this is another baby SUV from the Dearborn firm.

‘Hang on a second, that just looks like a Ford Fiesta?’ you may be asking. Well, you’re not wrong. However, if you look beyond the typical Fiesta bodywork, you’ll notice that there are some very interesting things going on under the skin.

A key giveaway that the underpinnings of this mule are unrelated to the Fiesta are the presence of five wheel bolts where the Fiesta typically just has four. Furthermore, the ride height is significantly different to a typical Fiesta and there are a set of flared wheel arches to accommodate the widened track.

Of course, it could be a different small SUV that Ford is preparing to add to its range – either for global consumption or for specific regions like Europe, India and/or China. We just don’t know at this point.

Whatever Ford is testing, we know that Ford has some exciting models up its sleeve, including the mini Bronco. The existence of this vehicle was confirmed just a few days ago and it will be a compact, rugged SUV that currently has no name. A single teaser image (above) of the vehicle has been published and it definitely looks promising.

If this mule is indeed of this mini Bronco, or any other tiny Ford SUV, we can expect to see many other similar mules and prototypes over the coming 18 months.

    Very much a mule.

Next generation EcoSport, which is pretty old. The USDM will get it when the current Euro Fiesta is due to be updated.

    No way!

Unless this sub-Bronco is the size of the Suzuki Samurai then this mule is unrelated.

Ford could surprise everyone and just rebadge a Samurai, even though the small ute was attacked by Consumer Reports and ended up leading to Suzuki USA’s demise.

      • Current Suzuki Jimny (Name for Samurai in many parts of the world) is hardly passed European NCAP test, the next generation maybe but now they are exist simply because of the Japanese market demand.

That thing is stink-bug low to the ground.
Be lucky if it doesn’t get stuck on the curb in the parking lot at Starbucks.

I like it… but I want the Bronco family to have a larger 4-door like the current Wrangler.

This is most likely a test car for WRC or something of the sort .

    • Ford is no longer actively compete in WRC, They are merely ther eto provide technical assistance. And beside there is no point of camouflaging race car.

For now I believe we’re seeing the Mk3 EcoSport test mule. As the Mk7 Fiesta is evolutionary compared to the Mk6 (same B Global platform but with improvements when it comes to technology and room for passengers), I don’t believe a new Eco would follow a different path than that.

Or just the next generation EcoSport? After all, the currnet model is the second facelift of a 2012 model, a new one will be due at some point…
