Jeep Cherokee, Chevy Equinox And Ford Escape Line Up For A Drag Race

No, this isn’t the setup to a joke. Somebody actually wanted to see which compact crossover was quicker in a straight line between the Ford Escape, Jeep Cherokee and Chevrolet Equinox.

While their engine displacements don’t match up across the board, horsepower figures are comparable, which makes this rather unspectacular drag race at least semi-relevant to prospective buyers.

We’d rather play this one close to the vest and not give away the winner, but that doesn’t mean we can’t tell you how the three crossovers compare on paper, does it?

We will start with the Cherokee, because it’s the only one powered by a 3.2-liter V6. It has a nifty 271 HP and 239 lb-ft (324 Nm) of torque at its disposal. The other two models are more in tune with the times and powered by 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, with the Equinox producing 252 HP and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque, while the Escape is good for 245 HP and 275 lb-ft (275 Nm).

The folks over at Kunes Country TV decided to have two races in total, both of them featuring slow motion replay at the end, in case you want to judge the distances between the cars more precisely.

The equinox lost I’m sure because of turbo lag..

    • Dr Strangefinger

I’m sorry… I just assumed all of them lost???

  • Six_Tymes

meh. are most vehicles going electric or not? if yes, then what the point of this. and, do people really race each other in suv’s? i’v never seen anyone. or maybe they did this because they are out of ideas and have resorted to copying other reviewers, such as car wow.

    • :/ Yurr

I’ve been watching them for awhile, they just do it for fun haha.

    • Matt

Car wow didn’t invent drag racing.

      • Six_Tymes

    • Dr Strangefinger

My Commander with the 5.7 would have been competitive in this, ummmm… class.

      • Bullitt2605

The Commander isn’t competitive in any class.

  • Bash

TBH i thought the Chevy would be the fastest! im actually surprised of the escape.

  • Nick099

Jeep’s driver reaction slow off the line.

  • Nick099

Drove the latest Escape….great chassis in the twisties….surprising for a cute-ute. Almost made me want to buy it…but I just couldn’t.

As far as the numbers go…according to official numbers from the manufacturers the Jeep should have beat the others by at least 1/2 a second.

  • Mikestroh

The New 2.0 Turbo Cherokee would win this race.
