The old adage that says there’s no such thing as too much power applies to (almost) everything, even an offroad beast like the 2017 450HP Ford F-150 Raptor.

Ford’s twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 (which also forms the basis for the Ford GT powerplant) has plenty of potential, so Hypercar Development was able to extract an additional 125hp and 172lb-ft of torque at the wheels with just a new plug-and-play ECU, a custom intake system and a new exhaust.

Overall the tuned Raptor is estimated to produce around 600hp and 632lb-ft of torque, giving it more effortless speed both on- and off-road.

Sure, it may not sound as manic as the original supercharged V8, but the current Raptor is significantly better in pretty much every area. This includes things like the electric steering, the heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission, the lighter weight and more.

Add to that the more immediate responses of the chassis and you have one beast of an offroader that can blast down the desert very rapidly without even breaking a sweat.

Matt Farah samples Hypercar Development’s Ford F-150 Raptor on exactly the right conditions for a machine like this, so let’s hear what he has to say about our favorite tough-looking pickup truck.
