The Devel Sixteen is undoubtedly one of the most curious performance cars announced in recent times.

First shown off to the world in November 2013 with the promise of 5000 HP, it seemed almost impossible that it would ever reach production. However, in November last year, Devel shocked many by actually unveiling its production-spec Sixteen alongside the promise that it is indeed set to hit the streets.

Well, much to our surprise, a prototype has done just that and a short clip of the hypercar accelerating in the desert near Dubai has been published.

The video depicts a white and blue Sixteen accelerating away from the camera at a reasonable pace. Interestingly, the description says that the car was running on low boost during the run at just 20 per cent throttle. If that’s true, then the Devel has much more to give.

Devel intends on offering the Sixteen in three different guises. The first will come fitted with a 2000 HP twin-turbocharged V8 and be priced from $1.6 million. If that’s not enough, a 3000 hp version will be made available to customers. Last but not least, the all-conquering quad-turbo, 12.3-liter V16 derivative with 5000 hp will top out the range.

Unfortunately, the most powerful version will be restricted to track use. Thus, potential buyers will have to make do with “just” 3,000 HP – or twice the output of a Bugatti Chiron…
