It Is Alive: Watch The 5,000 HP Devel Sixteen Move Under Its Own Power

The Devel Sixteen is undoubtedly one of the most curious performance cars announced in recent times.

First shown off to the world in November 2013 with the promise of 5000 HP, it seemed almost impossible that it would ever reach production. However, in November last year, Devel shocked many by actually unveiling its production-spec Sixteen alongside the promise that it is indeed set to hit the streets.

Well, much to our surprise, a prototype has done just that and a short clip of the hypercar accelerating in the desert near Dubai has been published.

The video depicts a white and blue Sixteen accelerating away from the camera at a reasonable pace. Interestingly, the description says that the car was running on low boost during the run at just 20 per cent throttle. If that’s true, then the Devel has much more to give.

Devel intends on offering the Sixteen in three different guises. The first will come fitted with a 2000 HP twin-turbocharged V8 and be priced from $1.6 million. If that’s not enough, a 3000 hp version will be made available to customers. Last but not least, the all-conquering quad-turbo, 12.3-liter V16 derivative with 5000 hp will top out the range.

Unfortunately, the most powerful version will be restricted to track use. Thus, potential buyers will have to make do with “just” 3,000 HP – or twice the output of a Bugatti Chiron…

Such a captivating landscape. Probably showing ‘only 20% throttle’ since any more would make the thing explode. Saying it has 5,000 horsepower is so off the charts that it’s akin to saying is a bazillion majillion horsepower. At some point, the power can’t be put to the road and the tires will just spin as they search for traction.

Top-fuel drag cars have that much power… and they can get the power down. Then again, they have massive drag tires and their engines often explode.

      • Tydogg123 .

I was just thinking the same thing! Personally, I’d like my supercar engine to last more than 1/4 at a time….

      SPOT ON

  • b_digital

I love how they proved all the haters wrong.

    • Six_Tymes

by doing what? posting a 4-5 second video of it finally running?

  • Rob Banks

….chasing a pointless/ludicrous number they could never deliver on. Talk about the wrong approach

the Devel is in the details

  • SteersUright

Should have made jet turbines in that thing and at least the exhaust, or what I think is the exhaust, would have made more sense.

  • Six_Tymes

thats it? when will we see a full review video? or at least a real test drive video

  • Bash

Kinda expected a more aggressive/shredding start. Not even a rubber marks on the road.. this particular one (with that start) could simply have a civic engine installed.

  • They did confirmed the 5000hp engine is only for drag race usage only, so not exactly a “street” engine per say.

So another round of bollocks from Devel Shiteen.

    • LWOAP

True but I’d still take one. It’s one of those oddities I must have.

      • Well you are entitled to choose your collection lol.

It looks like a Star Wars landspeeder with all that sand on the road. I actually like this look better than the still shots we’ve seen from the show floor. There still is quite a way to go before production though. Here’s hoping they make the journey so that we can see just what that 5,000 hp actually does in a car.

  • Bob

Call me whatever you can muster but 5 000HP doesn’t even sound fun

  • Thegunof42 88’s

I think this’ll be like the Lykan. A poser car. Says it goes fast, doesn’t actually. Handles like a wooden cart too.

    • Yep, just showing off cars really. Without really philosophy behind them, that’s been a problem with Middle East and Chinese company.
