BMW M2 Competition Leaks With M4 Engine And 410 Horses

Pictures and details of the long-awaited BMW M2 Competition have leaked online following an early publication by BMW Australia.

The information confirms that the M2 Competition uses the same S55 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine as the M4 but has been detuned to 410 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. BMW quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.2 seconds with a dual-clutch transmission. The punchy engines revs up to 7600 rpm.

No mention has been made as to whether or not the M2 Competition will be offered with a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Even if it’s not, the short wheelbase, rear-wheel drive system, and compact nature of the car promise to make it an absolute treat to drive.

Visual modifications are minor

From a visual standpoint, the M2 Competition isn’t as different from the current M2 as anticipated. The most significant changes include a redesigned black kidney grille and slightly enlarged air intakes. Additionally, the car receives the M4’s wing mirrors and comes with bespoke black wheels. A new diffuser and altered tailpipes are also featured.

A quick look in the cabin reveals M4 seats, a red starter button, and familiar ‘M1’ and ‘M2’ buttons on the steering wheel which offer configurable drive settings.

The BMW M2 Competition is expected to launch at this month’s Beijing Motor Show.

So basically, they brought an M2 and loaded it up with M4 stuff and bits.

    • Christian

not as beautiful as you, 🙂

  • Jay

LOL to all those dealers overpricing that M2. Feel bad for those who got shafted in the process.

  • Can’t wait to see this! But don’t expect it eclipse M4 soon.

    • SteersUright

Why not? The M4 is HUGE and no longer a small, agile package like its predecessors. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the M4 evolve into more of a GT and BMW using the M2 platform for its more hardcore offerings.

      • Because otherwise people will stop buying M4 and buy M2, it’s like Cayman will never eclipse 911 soon.

        • SteersUright

The Cayman might very well eclipse nearly every 911 save for the GT3RS and above once the GT4 model arrives. Different strokes for different folks. The M4 is a larger car which is a “must” for some enthusiasts who still want an “M” car. The M2 may not “eclipse” it on usability and desirability, but it might very well eclipse it on performance and for those who want the ultimate “M” car without as much regard to the practicality and comfort afforded by the bigger M4.

    I like the new grille.

I think they mean six speed MANUAL trans as opposed to DC.

  • David Lee

I was hoping it had at a rear wing. Visually, I want it to be a tad more special.

  • Necmy

still no full digital dashboard… why ?

    • Skydis

      It’s unnecessary

    • Honda NSX-R

Maybe for the next gen M2

  • Stealth333

Too slow, it should have like 550HP…c’mon it’s 2018 YO!

  • gregory cassanova

Finally it gets the M style mirrors!

    • Jay

And seats. The M2 was a slap in the face of their true loyalists. Also obnoxious they dot fit the other options into this car like the 360 camereas, etc. They even have worse lease and purchase rates than an m4. I hope this brings them down to actually affordable territory.. which will piss off the initial purchasers more sadly.

Looks fantasic! But these screenshots look like they came from Need for Speed, lol

    • Honda NSX-R

They probably are from Need for Speed

Great news with 2 caveats: Hopefully they have also sorted out the bone-jarring ride of the current M2 and hopefully the price is still “attainable” otherwise this car will be in a whole new class.
