Now that we’ve had time to digest the Volkswagen Arteon, we can’t help but appreciate its stylish exterior design that  manage to hide its generous exterior dimensions.

But is it really something you could consider over an Audi A5 Sportback or a BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe?

Judging by this in-depth review from Carwow, the answer to that question is a definitive…maybe. Starting with the positives, the Arteon is actually shockingly spacious and practical, not to mention visibly larger than the A5 Sportback.

Then there’s the fact that standard equipment levels are excellent. The folks at Volkswagen really went all out with trying to make the Arteon stand out from the rest of the range. Too bad though that the cabin doesn’t feel that far removed from the Passat’s.

It’s also a shame that it’s not particularly sporty to drive, at least not as much as the Audi or the BMW. On the flip side, you will enjoy maneuvering it with ease around town, as well as cruising along at motorway speeds.

Also, when choosing your ideal Arteon configuration, you might want to consider getting a petrol engine though (preferably the flagship 2.0 TSI), since it will be quieter and quicker than the diesels.

Would you consider the Arteon over its rivals from Audi or BMW?
