Mercedes-Maybach Teases Luxurious New Concept For Beijing

Mercedes-Maybach will unveil a brand new concept at Auto China 2018 in Beijing at the end of this month, and by the looks of it, it’s going to be something truly spectacular.

While the 30-second teaser video isn’t too revealing, we can still see the massive center console with a floating design, indirectly pointing to this being an SUV. If that’s true, then it could very well be the rumored flagship GLS we kept hearing about last month.

Sticking to what we can see, the concept seems to feature four individual seats, aluminum inserts on the steering wheel (like on the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet), wood trim across the dashboard and door panels and multiple gold accents throughout.

Then there’s the white leather, Maybach logos and the ambient lighting, which together create a predominantly luxurious atmosphere inside the vehicle.

Based on previous reports, a possible Mercedes-Maybach GLS could feature styling upgrades such as a Vision 6 Concept-like front grille, new wheels, heated and ventilated rear seats with massage function, and maybe even a longer wheelbase, though the latter is a complete unknown.

Electrified powertrains a possibility

Power might come via the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLS 63’s twin-turbo V8, although an array of mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid units could also be in the cards.

Since the all-new GLS is based on the automaker’s MHA platform, a similar product, like a Mercedes-Maybach version of the flagship SUV, would presumably be lighter on its feet and more fuel efficient than previous GLS models.

The 2018 Beijing Auto Show goes live in less than two weeks, April 25th.

How the line up should be
    Maybach GLS 560 : V8 470 hp
Maybach GLS 600 EQPower : hybrid with the 560’s 470 hp V8 + electric engine for at least 550 or 600 hp
Don’t need the obsolete V12 anymore.

The 4L V8 makes up to 630 hp already on it’s own, with electrics it will be 800hp as in the 4-door AMG concept from a while back. The GLS63 will be the one with 600hp, not the Maybach.

No it’s not, there is clearly a hill descent control switch on that console if you look at the video. This is the Maybach version of next GLS, a concept version that is.

    my first reaction was why
    bring a Maybach to China?

    …but then i realized China
    owns 10% of Daimler now,
    so they essentially get to
    input decisions as if they
    are majority shareholder
    (if MB wants to continue
    doing business there)
