Time For The Lamborghini Urus To Show What It’s Made Of

We get that many people will struggle with the idea of a Lamborghini SUV, especially one that appears to share nothing of the sheer craziness of the iconic LM 002. But the new Urus is certainly a car that requires our attention.

It’s the vehicle that will effectively allow Lamborghini to create more supercars in the future, as the company expects doubling its sales once it goes on sale this summer.

But the new Lamborghini Urus must feel like a Lambo and push the boundaries of what an SUV can do, otherwise what’s the point of having one?

Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that makes 650PS (641hp) and 850Nm (627lb-ft) of torque. Despite weighing 2,197kg (4,843lbs), the Urus can catapult itself to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.6 seconds and reach 190mph (305km/h) flat out.

Lamborghini wants the Urus to behave like a proper sports car on the track and offer one of the best off-road capabilities in the market, so the Italians have thrown everything they had at it; active roll-bars, a torque-vectoring rear differential, massive carbon brakes with 10-piston calipers, six drive modes for the road and track and another three for off-road driving, the list goes on and on.

So, what it’s like then? Autocar delivers its first drive impressions on the video below.

    plastic bodywork

    • Matt

      Ok…..?

  • LWOAP

inb4 somebody calls it a Q8 in drag.

    • Andrewthecarguy

      #2 to say it then.
Bentayga is Q7 in a chiffon blouse and silk skirt.
At least the Urus looks good in person. The Q8 will be a hit only because of this Urus.

      • Сафиуллина-Мохамед Рамазанов

Same as the R8 was a hot because of the Lambos it’s based on

After R8 death Audi need another vehicle with the same formula

  • FactChecker90803

So a VAG chassis and VAG corporate engine, talk about Badge Engineeering.

  • fabri99

I’m not entirely happy with the idea of a Lamborghini SUV, but I understand this is what sells nowadays. Anyway, it really bugs me that this car looks a lot like something Audi would do. I expected some bonkers V12 monster from Lambo, not just another ugly-looking, bland SUV. The LM002 was pretty dumb, but at least it was cool. This isn’t, not more than a Q7 or a Bentayga.

    • Alexey Nemirov

      100 %

    • S3XY

But why do most people want ugly stupid gas guzzlings SUV’s?

      • Matt

The Model X is ugly and stupid too.

  • Tiguan on growth hormones…

    • Matt

Except it doesn’t have anything in common with a Tiguan?

      • VW MQB Platform…sure it’s a Tiguan…

        • roy

          VAG MLB Evo platform

          • Ok Longitudinal vs Transverse…same platform…

          • Matt

Do you even know what ‘platform’ means? It’s only certain structural hard points and base for sub frames and bodywork. You make it sound like they just put a Urus bodyshell over a Tiguan.

And no the MLB Evo platform is not just a variant of the MQB, the principles are the same – but it’s a different platform in its own right.

          • roy

Trust me it is not the same. Although I will admit that a lot of components are similar if not exactly the same because that is how it is supposed to be… Modular stuff….
And as far as driving Dynamics are concerned.. each vehicle is tuned so that it justifies the badge it is wearing. But more individual character is always welcome

  • S3XY

    The ugliest Lamborghini ever.

  • Craig

I’ll take a Trackhawk instead thanks!

    • Bash

      +1

  • Jim Ragland

    What is with that sound???

  • Nelson

i think one thing it’s missing it’s actually the signature Lamborghini exhaust sound. it growls but not as a lamborghini.
