The E28 M535i might have been a slightly more aggressive looking version of the regular 535i, but still it’s a BMW straight from the eighties in pristine condition.
Unlike the previous E12 M535i, which was handbuilt by BMW M division and is considered the predecessor of the original M5, the E28 M535i was a regular 535i fitted with the M-Technic styling pack.
This specific M535i is an one-owner right-hand drive example. It’s finished in Agate Green over an Anthracite cloth interior and features desirable options like the close-ratio, dog-leg five-speed gearbox and sunroof.
This rather lovely BMW M535i covered 40,700 miles up until the December of 1988, when its owner took it off the road and into controlled storage. The car remained there until March of this year, meaning it spent the last 28 years hidden away.
It might not be a proper M car, but even so it’s powered by a 3.5-liter straight-six engine that produces 215hp and 229lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough for a saloon of this period to make the driver happy all the time.
With prices of the original E28 M5 going up, this M535i might be the perfect car for someone willing to spend up to £30,000 ($40k in current exchange rates).
