Concrete Slabs Save Pedestrians From Out-Of-Control RAM Pickup

A horrific accident took place in Auburn, Washington last Friday, where the driver of a white pickup truck lost control and slammed into the front of a donut shop.

Two pedestrians could have been killed if it hadn’t been for those concrete curbs the shop installed outside, due to several previous crashes having occurred at that exact location. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

As for the woman who didn’t have time to make it into the store, she was visibly stunned by the near-miss.

“She was so frightened, she was just shaking,” stated the store’s clerk while speaking to Komo News. “She said she could have died, she saw it coming right at her.”

After arriving at the scene, Auburn Police Department officers took the driver of the truck, a male in his 40’s, into custody, charging him with DUI.

In the end, it’s safe to say that both the woman as well as the man owe their lives to those concrete barriers – the woman most definitely. There’s literally nothing any of them could have done, judging by how fast that truck came at them.

As for the driver of the RAM, hopefully he’s driven his last vehicle on public roads, although, you generally need to be a multiple-time offender before this type of drastic legal measure can be taken against you.

Wow….that is bad. Will we ever learn that drinking and driving is not a good idea?? No…no we won’t.

    • Auf Wiedersehen

Honestly if Darwin was right, the drunks would die instead of the people who do in these types of wrecks and we’d evolve to no drunk drivers. Unfortunately the drunks tend to live, and go on to illustrious careers behind the wheel.

Bollards(posts) not curbs or slabs…just sayin

    • Papa Van Twee

      Nevermind the bollards!

Bollards are everywhere along The Strip in Las Vegas these days.
All those idiots weaponizing cargo trucks to kill people on sidewalks in Europe…was more than enough to get the city & the casinos to go proactive.

  • Alfa Giulia QV

I do hope the driver is okay, but I’m glad to see the bollards did their job.

  • TheBelltower

The store owner seems to anticipated something like this could happen. Seems likely, given the location and the curvature of the road.

    • Status

It’s not something the store owner has to provide protection for. Generally, curtain walls that face or can be exposed to automotive traffic aren’t required to be protected with bollards.

  • Erzhik

It wasn’t the slab that saved them, it disintegrated if you look from the inside. The yellow bollards saved them as they were the ones that prevented the car from moving further. Concrete slabs may have reduced the impact.

  • kachuks

The guy ran for it and she braced herself. Note to self, running for it will probably be my best option if ever in this situation.

    • diesel_vdub

He didn’t so much as run for it as close the door so she had no option to get out of the way.

  • Jay

Took that curve waaayyy too fast..

  • LJ

That one time my girlfriend and I tried anal.

  • Hawaii_SE-R

Bollards and sign post did the job. The woman got lucky she didn’t get killed by that huge block of concrete that was not anchored to anything. Interior shot shows the intact concrete block hitting the storefront intact.

  • talk about taking the vehicle name literally and raming onto things.. poor lady, no survival instincts tho

He started out with “allow me, madam” and quickly followed to “sorry, no time”
