Too Hot To Handle: Lexus RC F GT3 Burns To The Ground

The Lexus RC F is stuck playing second fiddle to the Toyota Supra, so one RC F GT3 decided to protest this injustice by spontaneously bursting into flames.

The incident occurred at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Friday after five-time Daytona 500 winner Scott Pruett returned to the paddock.

As you can see in the videos, the RC F GT3 appeared to be in perfect condition as Pruett exited the car without any sign of trouble.

As Pruett reaches back into the cabin, flames erupt from underneath the car. He quickly runs away as the fire begins to spread.

A handful of people arrive to combat the blaze with fire extinguishers and it seems to work – for a while. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain as the fire completely engulfs the car and leaves it a burned out hunk of metal.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, but Lexus told Jalopnik the model was a show car that can be used for racing but isn’t fielded in IMSA competition.  That’s a bit of good news on an otherwise bad day for the company.

The RC F GT3 was one of a handful of vehicles Lexus brought to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as the company is using the event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its F performance brand. Among the other models at Goodwood are the IS F, GS F, LFA and RC F Cup.

  • Mr. EP9

Sad to see, but also, playing second fiddle to the Supra? That thing is still in camo and I’ve seen more of the RC F than the Supra.

Goodwood is the last place a manufacturer wants this type of thing happening. Anyone notice it was right in front of Mercedes row?

    • Bo Hanan

Agree 100%! It also appears the “F” brand hasn’t learned much in 10 years.
      1. loose some weight.
      2. Tone down the juvenile styling.
      3. Offer manual transmissions.

    • Yep in front of precious Silver Arrows.

  • cooper

No surprise this chick car burned to the ground. This is a going away to College car or just going to the mall car.

    • Dude (the first)

Ive seen this happen a lot.

  • ChrisInIL

I understand they interviewed Pruett right after getting out of the car, and he snuck in a “Hello to my Fire Department at home!”

  • TheBelltower

Taking my suggestion to “burn it.. burn it with fire” a bit too literally.

  • chumaxa .

An other great showcase of clever sentences here. Never seen a fuel leak before ? I do not care about Lexus but they managed to develop a great GT3. If you want a manual gearbox, do not buy a Lexus, that simple.
