A man in Virginia has crashed his brand new McLaren 720S one day after taking delivery.

Taking to Facebook, the Fairfax County Police Department said the black 720S was purchased last Friday and crashed on Saturday due to excessive speed. The damage is extensive and is definitely not repairable.

The single image shared on social media depicts the British supercar resting against a tree which it presumably hit. The driver’s side door has been torn off (or removed by rescue crews) and the front driver’s wheel has also been damaged and almost ripped off the hub. Additionally, the front and rear quarter panels are nothing more than individual piles of rubble.

Although police attributed the crash to speed, they haven’t said exactly how fast the car was traveling. However, it’s obvious that it was going far faster than the legal speed limit on the two-lane road in Great Falls, Virginia.

Since launching at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the 720S has made a name for itself as being one of the fastest production cars on the planet. On paper, it has almost 200 hp less than the hybrid P1 hypercar, but numerous tests have shown it to be almost as fast around a racetrack.

What’s more, the 720S can accelerate at a truly tremendous rate and is almost as brisk as its bigger sibling and even the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Cliche or not, with all this power and performance comes great responsibility. Evidently, the owner of this 720S couldn’t handle it.
