New Brabham BT62 Devours The Goodwood Hill Climb, Gives Us An Eargasm

The 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed is over, but videos from the event continue to surface. One of them depicts the impressive Brabham BT62 in action on the hill climb.

Brabham’s first production vehicle demonstrated its racing pedigree in front of the spectators, dressed in the same livery as the F1 racer driven by Niki Lauda 40 years ago, with which he won the Swedish Grand Prix on June 17.

But as Brabham announced at the beginning of June, all units of the BT62 will wear different clothes. Some of them will be reminiscent of different victories in Formula 1, while others will be customized with individual patterns, thus standing out even more whenever they will hit the track.

And the track will be the only place where enthusiasts will be able to catch a glimpse of the Brabham BT62, as the supercar isn’t road legal.

With a £1 million ($1,32 million) starting price, the Brabham BT62 weighs just 972kg (2,142lbs) dry. Its mid-mounted naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8 engine is good for 710PS (700hp / 522kW) and 666Nm (492lb-ft) of torque, channeled to the rear axle via a six-speed sequential racing transmission.

Brabham hasn’t disclosed the 0-100km/h (0-62mph) or the top speed of the BT62, but the track-only toy has already shattered the lap record at Philip Island, during high-speed testing, with the brand’s Managing Director and multiple Le Mans winner, David Brabham, sitting in the driver’s seat.

Deliveries of the first units are expected later in 2018, so stay tuned for more exciting footage.

I believe it is a Ford 5.0L, but it’s hard to tell. Whatever it was, it’s now got a unique top end, and is heavily modified. Regardless, the Brabham BT62 is definitely at the top of my list of drool-worthy exotica.

      • Yep you are right, but a lot of modifications so it can be said that it’s a new engine of it’s own.

It sounds angry, so far I like what I’m seeing.

  • And somehow they found a loophole to make it a road legal car, albeit cheating.
