Icon Bronco BR Derelict Combines Old School Looks With A 5.0-Liter Coyote V8

Icon is showing off their first Bronco BR Derelict which was recently used as part of a fundraiser for the American Wild Horse Campaign.

Inspired by Ford’s original ad campaign for the Bronco, the fundraiser involved nature photographer Shane Russeck taking photos of the Bronco BR Derelict among a herd of wild mustangs in central California. Russeck then selected the best photo from the shoot and produced 150 prints of the picture which are being sold for $400. A quarter of the proceeds will go to the charity which aims to protect wild mustangs.

The mustang tie-in is fitting for the Bronco BR Derelict as it’s a restomod that has been equipped with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine sourced from Ford and made popular by the Mustang. It produces 426 hp (317 kW / 431 PS) and is connected to a five-speed manual transmission which is paired with an Advance Adapters Atlas II transfer case.

Of course, that’s just scratching the surface as the Bronco rides on a new frame and features a modern suspension with a four-link rear, Eibach springs and Fox shocks. The model has also been equipped with Dana 44 and Dana 60 axles which have ARB Air Lockers.

Rounding out the changes are factory-inspired 18-inch alloy wheels with 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and “period-looking hubcaps.” They are backed by a sport braking system which features Brembo calipers and rotors.

While the model doesn’t look as fancy as the Bronco BR or Bronco Old School BR, that was done on purpose. As ICON founder Jonathan Ward explained “We bought the truck from its original owner” and “It was way too cool for our normal process and had to be a Derelict.”

Since the whole entire point of the build was keeping the model’s original appearance, the company “faux patina-painted” some of the new components such as the adjustable steering column and Tuffy center console. The model was also sealed with a ceramic coating to prevent further “patina degradation.”
