Has The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Won You Over?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE hit our computer screens recently and appears to be quite a compelling package.

Mercedes-Benz says the GLE will be sold in a selection of guises but so far, only a single variant has been detailed. This model, the GLE 450 4MATIC, features a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 48-volt technology to produce 367 hp and 358 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. The engine is equipped with an EQ Boost function that adds 22 hp and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) for short bursts.

All GLE models will be sold as standard with a 9G-Tronic transmission complete with a transfer case outfitted with an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch. Brave GLE owners who want to take their vehicles off road can opt for a special off-roading package that includes a low-range gearbox for excellent low-speed traction. We can’t imagine many soccer moms ticking this option box.

The 2019 GLE also comes loaded with safety technologies. Chief among these are Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist, and Active Blind Sport Assist with exit warning.

Perhaps the coolest feature of the new GLE is Mercedes-Benz’s E-Active Body Control system. Working with the 48-volt architecture and air suspension, this system individually controls the spring and damping forces at all four corners. The result is a vehicle with minimal body roll, pitching, and squat. It also means the GLE can bounce up and down like a low-rider.

If you’re too lazy to read our comprehensive report of the new GLE, sit back and let the fellas from Car Wow tell you all about the new SUV.

I like the base design but I’m waiting on a full-fledge AMG version and the new coupe.

Sell like hotcakes?? Really?? NO M-B sells like hotcakes! I also predict that the vast majority of men won’t be caught dead driving one of these totally effeminate things, unless borrowing it from wifey or on a family outing.

    • DM

I honestly don´t find this “effimante” at all. Looks manlier than a Q7 and X5.

      • Freddy Kenny

It might no look “effeminate” but surely not manlier than the Q7 and X5.

      • Matthew Boyd

        +1

    • Kagiso Mutlaneng

I’m more worried that a man needs a car to make him look manlier. Renault used to be said to look a little “feminine” and don’t ever remember a Thierry Henry in the “Va Va Voom” days, driving around a Megane and giving off an “effeminate vibe”.

      Hmmm indeed

    • Merc1

      You’re totally clueless.

    • Dude

You’re an idiot. MB is the highest selling luxury automaker. And if you base people’s masculinity on what car they buy then you are pathetic and nothing else.

  • DM

I like the fact that they kept parts the original ML design like the quarter windows. Mercedes could have simply made it a bigger GLC but they stuck to its original design which is a good thing. The current GLE is very good looking IMO, looks muscular and sporty especially in AMG guise so this new one will hopefully look just as good.

  • Six Thousand Times

No, “luxury off-roaders” are the dumbest class of vehicle yet invented.

  • PK

The interior? Absolutely! The exterior on the other hand. I’m not saying it’s bad but should work on the front a bit more.

  • TheBelltower

Solid design that will look good in any driveway and shouldn’t offend anyone. It’ll sell very well. ‘Nuff said.

  • Kagan

    Not by the looks!

  • Nordschleife

There are designs that give me pause. This is not one. This looks fine to me. I think both the New X5 and the GLE look better than their previous iterations.

  • SteersUright

Nice. Not gorgeous, but pretty damn compelling a package. Too bad the Germans never seem to give a rats ass about reliability and longevity though.

    • TheBelltower

German cars are pricy to service, but generally will run forever if you keep up with maintenance.

  • Matthew Boyd

Responding directly to the title of this article…. pretty much. It’s curvaceous like any other Mercedes, but yet rugged at the same time. It’s so different from the X5 and Q5/Q7, it’ll sale…well.

  • Trackhacker

They ruined it. The rear especially looks like crap. Also black plastic on the side? Really?

  • Six Thousand Times

And you wouldn’t even risk the paint on one of these stupid things on so much as a dirt road.
