What’s faster than a McLaren 720S? Not much. Except perhaps a modified McLaren 720S.

As the 720S leaves the Woking factory with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 720 hp, not that many tuning companies or owners have been brave enough to modify it. However, one owner in the United States went for it and tuned his 720S. The results are as insane as you may expect.

In stock form, McLaren says the 720S can run the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds. However, numerous owners have managed to record sub-10-second runs in stock 720S’, including one which set a blistering 9.7-second time towards the end of last year.

At a recent outing at the drag strip, this 900 hp 720S recorded a best time of 9.614 seconds at 144.43 mph (232.43 km/h). Just a few minutes later, it set a near-identical time of 9.634 seconds at 144.24 mph (232.13 km/h), showing just how consistently fast it is.

As impressive as 9.6-second quarter mile passes are for a performance vehicle not even classified as a ‘hypercar’, we can’t help but think this 720S has a little more to give. Not that it’s not absurdly fast as it is, but still, you can never have too much of a good thing now, can you?
