Dodge has claimed that, with a competent driver behind the wheel, the Challenger SRT Demon can run the quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds.

We recently saw an example doing 9.83 seconds, but that was equipped with different tires, so shaving a couple of tenths of a second should be doable.

One reason behind the Dodge Demon’s failed attempts to conquer the drag strip is that laying down the immense 840 horses produced by the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 (when running on 100 octane fuel) is very tricky. But once the person holding the wheel masters it, they should hit the 60 mph (96 km/h) mark about as quickly as a Bugatti Chiron.

Now, having 840 HP to play with is definitely awesome. However, Hennessey constantly fiddled with the engine, making it produce in excess of 1,000 HP. Their latest creation, however, is even more impressive: 1,200 HP, obtained thanks to the upgraded supercharger and other tuned internals.

To demonstrate how quick their project is, Hennessey took it out and revealed its straight line acceleration, which, by all means, is very fast, especially with the high-octane tune. And that supercharged engine, as you can witness in the video right below, comes with a ferocious soundtrack, too.
