Mercedes 230 SL Pagoda By Carlex Has A Lavishly Redone Interior

The timeless design of the Mercedes 230 SL has made it a favorite among classic car collectors, who have often went above and beyond maintaining or restoring their rides.

Looking at this particular example, however, which hasn’t welcomed an electric motor or something like that, you won’t be able to tell that it has paid a visit to a renowned tuner.

Carlex Design is behind the project, which emphasizes the interior of the classic Mercedes. The team answered the owner’s request, who wanted something truly special. Thus, they took pretty much everything out from the cabin and added a lot of new leather.

Be it on the upper and lower parts of the dashboard, seats, central console, armrest, doors and even the footwell, this 230 SL Pagoda has a lot of two-tone leather. It also benefits from leather-made door straps and bins, and even a bespoke cargo area located behind the seats.

Other work made by Carlex includes the leather-wrapped steering wheel and sun visors and refurbished metallic trim that give the car more character. It even gets its very own picnic basket in the trunk area, carefully stored away in what appears to be a wooden crate, wrapped in… you got it, leather!

True, a bit more subtle and this would’ve been unbelievable.. As it is though, overdone or not, its quite stunning work.

Tastefully implemented, minus those door poaches inspired to stagecoaches in the Far West. Other items are inspired by the same theme and by that of a luxury living room of yesteryear…but they are well implemented. Those door poaches though…

this could have been all very fine if those extra this and that didn’t ruin it completely. God those stitches are just plain fugly!

  • As a classic car fan, I really wish it was in original state, the upholstery maybe expensive and unique but it kinda makes the car unattractive to me.
