Lynk & Co Has Signed The World’s Best Touring-Car Driver For Its Racing Team

Next year, Volvo’s long-time racing partner is bringing a new marque into the World Touring Car Cup. And it’s signed the best driver it possibly could for the new program.

That, racing fans, would be Yvan Muller. With four World Touring Car Championships (and a British one) to his name, he’s the winningest driver in the history of the series. And next year, he’ll be driving the new Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

After winning his world titles with Seat and Chevy under the previous framework, Muller’s been driving a Hyundai i30 N TCR in the newly rechristened World Touring Car Cup. But for next year, he’ll be with Cyan Racing as it brings Volvo’s new offshoot brand into the series.

“I have been very happy working with Cyan Racing and to continue our journey in this new programme with Lynk & Co is ideal,” said Muller. “We will continue to push hard for the World Title in 2019.”

Driving the second car will be Swedish driver Thed Björk, who won the 2017 championship with Polestar/Cyan. He teamed with Muller this year in the Hyundai as well under the Yvan Muller Racing banner, which collaborated with Cyan as it took the year off to prepare for next year’s assault. A third driver is set to be announced at a later date.

“Yvan is a key part in our assault on the 2019 FIA WTCR and our cooperation with him and his team Yvan Muller Racing during 2018 has been invaluable,” added Cyan Racing chief Christian Dahl. “The programme has enabled us to make the necessary preparations in order to hit the ground running next year. To claim the teams’ title in 2018 fills us all with confidence for the challenges to come.”

If you cover up the top lights with your finger the bottom part of the car looks like a Mustang and Camaro front end mash up.

Or it could resemble the Fiat Coupe. Be that as it may, I love this design. Think this car is sharp looking.

Kinda, but i still think this could easily be something Mopar. I love it.

You do know this is just a Volvo Touring Car racer, built by the former Polestar motorsports guys. Nothing special from Lynk & Co, they haven’t even started production yet. This is a great publicity stunt but really meaningless when it comes to the relationship between the race car and street car, but most people will be un-educated so they might be impressed.

You know that WTCR states that the chassis, the engine and the suspensions MUST come from the road car, so this isn’t the s60 WTCC (built under different regulations)

One can only hope that this ugly front end (on a sedan) is not the harbinger that many sedans will be adopting the look, now unfortunately, common among recently introed CUVs. In this case, hope is likely futile.

Ignore the bad MS Paint, but look how cool it would look if it didn’t have those ugly headlights on the corner.
