Ford GT Challenges Lamborghini Aventador To A 1/4 Mile Race

Looking at the numbers, this should be a highly competitive drag race between two supercars that couldn’t be more different once you start examining their specs.

The Lamborghini Aventador is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 churning out 700 PS (690 HP) and 690 Nm (507 lb-ft) of torque. It’s a beast of a power unit and it helps the Italian exotic reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds, before maxing out at 350 km/h (217 mph).

Meanwhile, the Ford GT is a whole different type of animal. Sure, they’re both supercars and they’re both aimed at customers with deep pockets, but the GT is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that’s good for 656 PS (647 HP) and 745 Nm (550 lb-ft) of torque.

Before the drag racen took place, the Ford GT put up a very quick 1/4 mile time on its own, with VBOX data showing that it covered the distance in just 10.89 seconds at 132.3 mph (212.9 km/h), hitting 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.11 seconds, 100 mph (161 km/h) in 6.42 seconds, and needed just 7.2 seconds to get from 60 to 130 mph (209 km/h).

So, in a straight line, the Ford is pretty much as quick as the Lambo if you’re only counting to 60 or 62 mph. Beyond that… well, check out the clip and find out!

    That Lambo sounds fantastic!

  • eb110americana

That was a 2014 Aventador (not quite as rapid as the newer “S”), which looks to have at least a bodykit. The video incorrectly stated the weight as 3,700 lbs, when it is actually 4,085 lbs. The sub 3,400 lb weight of the GT, combined with the low end turbo torque and rapid dual-clutch shifts look to cost the Lambo precious fractions of a second at each upshift of its single clutch, taking the high-revving V12 off its power peak. With the prepped track, its AWD couldn’t save it.

Surprised the ford is that slow, and sounds terrible.

Id take the ford.. to me just seems way more special.

  • Vicu

Surprised, expected that Lambo will win, but that Ford is to good for it.
And the sound is amazing for both, its just about what you prefer.

It’s not the much newer Aventador S or SV so no huge surprise. Even a new Honda/Acura NSX can outgun the original Aventador (and runs close with a current Aventador S).

You gotta love it when a 1/4 mile race is a 13:13 minute video. 13 second action, 13 minute douches.

  • faceup5

For what the GT costs, there should be a twin turbo Coyote 5.0 in that thing. Then things would get interesting. Ford needs to lose the whole “Ecoboost” stuff.

    • nellydesign

Blah blah blah. That engine won them Le Mans. The entire reason it was used.

    • nellydesign

Also… 4WD and more horsepower and the GT still pulled away at the top end. Yup, that engine must suck…

Can’t go wrong with either car, I prefer the GT. I love everything about the design, inside and out. There’s just something special about it.
