All-New 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Packs 910 lb-ft Of Torque, Due In February

Chevy’s all-new 2020 Silverado HD is set to debut in February of next year, when it will instantly take up the mantle of the “most advanced Silverado HD ever”, according to the automaker.

This will also be the third all-new Silverado variant to make its debut within the past 18 months, and its assembly will take place at GM’s Flint plant in Michigan. Also, compared to its 1500 sibling, the HD model is almost entirely different, as the two trucks have only their roofs in common.

Still, like the Silverado 1500, the HD also gains an additional 3 inches (7.6 cm) of legroom on crew cab models, to go with a taller, more comfortable seating position.

“We know the needs and priorities of heavy-duty customers are different than those of either light-duty or medium-duty customers,” stated Silverado HD chief engineer, Jaclyn McQuaid. “As such, we built a heavy-duty truck tailor-made for them that has more differentiation than ever before from light-duty models, offers advanced towing technologies to improve towing confidence and includes new features such as the integrated Bedstep, which makes it easier to access the bed while pulling a fifth-wheel trailer.”

Unstoppable force

Come next year, you’ll be able to purchase a 2020 Silverado HD with a choice of two new powertrains. You can either go for the all-new gasoline engine with direct injection (which is mated to a six-speed transmission), or the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 unit, which feeds a monster 910 lb-ft (1,233 Nm) of torque to the wheels through a new Allison 10-speed gearbox.

Other features include a new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities and a wide range of technologies designed for heavy duty truck buyers.

“We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck,” said Silverado HD lead exterior designer, Brian Izard. “The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled finishes and customer-focused details.”

The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will go on sale in mid-2019.

As much as I don’t want to say it, the front end is ALMOST there. It’s definitely a big change from the old one, but it makes it look more like a heavy duty truck, more of a beast. I don’t think I’ll ever like the new 1500, but I could get used to this.

  • FordMopar

Front end is almost like an updated ’70-’80s front end…

  • DetrinKD

Looks better than the Ford SuperDuty!

  • MarkoS

I doubt I will ever require anything this massive, but it certainly has the presence. Overall a good-looking truck and certainly better looking than the others. Nice they moved the Headlights down where they are needed. Now for those interiors GM. For me, I am look forward to see what they will do with the Colorado, its time for a refresh and it needs to be quite extensive a look similar to the 1500’s would work very nicely.

  • john1168

No imagination at all in the styling of that front end. Ford is guilty of this too. The rest of the truck seems pretty good. I wouldn’t mind seeing some interior pics.

  • Brian Regan

I… don’t hate that. Definitely looks better than the 1500.

    • BGM

In the words of Kitty Forman: You shut your dirty little mouth….
I saw a Ram 1500 yesterday. For the first time I realized it has yellow blinkers in the rear and made me like it even more.

This thing looks like all the parts were put in a catapult, shot and all the parts just fell together like that.

      • Brian Regan

I meant the Silverado 1500. I’d take the Ram over any other fullsize truck right now.

      • futures

What’s strange about the Ram’s tail lights (and a few Jeeps and Model X) is that the brake light actually turns from red to amber when the turn signal is engaged. It’s not a separate turn signal from the brake. Meaning when the brake is applied alongside a turn signal, there is no red showing on that side of the car at all. I have no idea how that’s legal.

        • BGM

Bro you just rained on my parade. Really? I could have sworn they were independent from the brake lights.

Honestly, how difficult is that: red for brakes, yellow for turn signals, independent of one another. Anything else is illegal in Europe. Should be illegal in the US too.

          • TheAmerican

I personally like red rear turn signals. Gives the whole taillight a cleaner look.

  • Subi-Rubicon1

This truck looks very good overall. I’m still on the fence regarding the rear lamps, but I don’t hate them. I really hope that Chevy gets their act together and comes up with a good looking interior.

  • Craig

    It sure ain’t pretty.

  • performante

    I like it.

  • MMNYC18

    Shockingly ridiculous.

  • Emoto

I’m really struggling to find the words to describe that grill. “Grotesquely disjointed” doesn’t quit convey the essentially non-unified look. While any of the individual elements, if examined in isolation, look good, when you put them all together, you end up with a visually unappealing mish-mash of angular shapes that in no way complement each other, nor do they work together to suggest a larger theme. It is almost as though stylists created a set of random parts and they were assembled by people with vision impairment of some kind.

  • ejd1984

    Well……………it’s different

  • Shane

I use to think the 13/14/15 model years were ugly but these new ones are making me appreciate those years.

  • BGM

This is like the Stormy of pick up trucks. If you’re drunk enough you think it looks acceptable. But on second look the parts don’t fit together, it’s showing its years even though it pretends to stay relevant and ultimately it’s just a pass time before you get yourself a real pick up: Melania in a Ram 1500.

    • Matt

Does that mean the RAM has no real abilities other than spending a lot of time in the body shop keeping its front end looking ‘youthful?’

      • BGM

Hey man, eye candy is eye candy eh? I should be so lucky…

      • Matthew Miller

Yeah because a college educated woman who is fluent in 5 languages and is a globally acclaimed supermodel is basically just a worthless bimbo, right?

        • Matt

Never said she was a worthless bimbo, but if you want to believe that she is ‘fluent in 5 languages’ (not true) and a ‘globally acclaimed supermodel’ (is that a sign of intelligence now?) then be my guest.

  • Jørn-tommy Skjellnes

compare to the new Ram this new silverado does not look good.

  • Michael_66589

first GM truck styled by Chinese designers.

  • WalthamDan

A decent looking truck ruined by that hideous front end.

  • VERY BUTCH.

  • kachuks

Front fascia looks like a smaller truck is squatting on top of a bigger one.

  • Holmer_k

They made a statement all right. It’s just a terrible statement.

  • designer_dick

The RAM is a paragon of restraint and discreet good taste compared to this utter monstrosity. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more vulgar or offensively over the top.

    • Carlos Gamarra

couldn’t agree more. seems like a couple of designers should get fired

      • designer_dick

Fired? More like put in front of a firing squad – whoever signed off that front end thoroughly deserves to be taken out back and shot.

        • Carlos Gamarra

          with a double-barrel shotgun

  • rodriguez256

Everything about the truck actually looks good, however the front view ruins it all. It’s a shame because the rest of the truck looks so much better than the 1500.

  • DR.FUNK

    PASS.
My RAM 1500 runs just fine for now.
I’ll just wait on that Rivian electric…and get a truck with more ponies…more torque…and fewer moving parts.
I would’nt let the designer(s) of this Truckenstein near a CAD sketch pad ever again.

  • Matthew Miller

This shit looks like hot garbage. Good thing I cant afford one or else it would upset me. Not looking forward to those headlights in my rearview either.

  • Scott Carmichael

The Ford SuperDuty has nothing to worry about from this monstrosity..

  • TheBelltower

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what you get when you feed your focus group paint chips and airplane glue.

  • Chris Bamgboye

I thought they fired the Aztek design team!!!… This is ugly..
