Porsche 988 Imagines The Brand’s Next Mid-Engine Supercar

If you believe the reports, Porsche was developing a mid-engine rival to the likes of the Ferrari 488 GTB, McLaren 720S, and Lamborghini Huracan.

While it remains to be seen if such a project is still ongoing (or if it ever existed), the following renderings show us what form such a vehicle could take.

The following creation has been dubbed the Porsche 988 Vision and been created by Invisive. Taking inspiration from various Porsche models, the supercar looks every bit as special as you’d hope a new mid-engine supercar from Stuttgart would.

Up front, there are a few aspects that particularly stand out, most notably the bulging wheel arches that are typical of Porsche. Elsewhere, you will notice an aggressive hood with sharp character lines, thin LED headlights, and front air intakes similar in shape to those of the latest 911.

As the rendering has been designed to accommodate an engine between the two axles, it has an overall shape somewhat similar to the 918 Spyder hypercar. As a result, there’s large air intakes on the sides to feed the powertrain, a low roofline, and a sleek glass engine cover. The 918 design traits continue with eye-catching taillights and a rear wing that seamlessly extends upwards from the decklid.

Invisive has even taken the time to design an interior for the supercar, complete with ergonomic sports seats, a fully-digital gauge cluster, and a two-spoke sports steering wheel.

Overall, not a bad design, not sure about the seat belts though. That would feel weird putting them on backwards.

I agree. I actually think this is (of of the first) renders I can actually REALLY get behind.

I feel as though this is what the Successor to the MP4-12C from McLaren should have looked like.

There are actually some production cars which have central seat belts, although I am at a loss to name one at the moment.

Not the worst unofficial design I’ve seen here. Not sure about the back though, for multiple reasons

That guy’s talented. I like this.

I don’t really care for most of it, but I do like the way he resolved the rear fenders. If Porsche used those on the next 718 Boxter/Cayman, that would look awesome.

    Impressive.

That’s almost as ugly as that ‘Next Nissan GT-R’ rendering/cartoon thing that we all saw not too long ago.

  • Snorlax

Hmmm that doesn’t even feel like a Porsche. Too much influences from other hyper cars :/

Looks like a Maclaren to me

    Marvelous!

Not sure about the look, but in terms of rendering it looks very good. Definitely a talented designer.

    Looks like an R8 :-/

    I kinda dig it.
