Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has revealed their neither he or Jason Statham will be featured in Fast and Furious 9.

Johnson and Statham recently wrapped filming of ‘Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw‘, the first spin-off film in the Fast and Furious franchise. The film premieres on August 2 and according to Johnson, will be a huge summer smash.

Based on Johnson’s increased presence in the Fast and Furious films since Fast Five, it was widely assumed that he would play a starring role in both Fast 9 and Fast 10. Speaking with MTV News, however, Johnson confirmed he won’t be in Fast 9 but left the door open for future Fast and Furious films.

“The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand. As of now, we’re (Johnson and Statham) not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting but who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know.

“Look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”

While ‘Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw‘ is still seven months away from screens, reception to it has been mixed. A quick look at any of Johnson’s social media posts about the film reveals that many fans are upset at the idea of a Fast and Furious spin-off film and claim that Johnson has taken over and hurt the franchise.

Unfortunately for these critics, there are more Fast and Furious spin-offs in the work. In fact, Vin Diesel recently confirmed that there are at least two other spin-offs being developed, one of which will focus on a female lead and be written by screenwriters Nicole Perman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
