New Audi RS4 Driven – Is It The Best Sports Wagon On Sale Today?

As most new cars these days, the latest Audi RS4 Avant has followed the downsizing engine trend aided by turbos. This means it’s no longer available with a large displacement, naturally aspirated V8.

Instead, it gets a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine which, surprisingly, sounds very good. It also delivers what it promises on paper in the real world, with its ability to push out 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) and 50 percent more torque than before, at 600 Nm (443 lb-ft).

Thanks to the extra pulling power, the Audi RS4 Avant feels like it can keep on going, regardless of the speed you’re traveling and selected gear. This, combined with the great handing, sharp steering, comfortable ride – even with the 20-inch alloys on, and the comparatively handsome design, as well as those body-hugging sports seats, make it a highly desirable model.

Practicality is great too, as the latest Audi RS4 Avant has one of the biggest cargo areas in the segment. Kids won’t feel cramped on the rear seat, and neither will adults.

There are some minor niggles, such as the fake exterior vents, and a tablet-like infotainment system that’s not touchscreen operated.

    I don’t quite understand why this won’t make it to the U.S. Does Audi seriously think there won’t be enough buyers for the Avant living in an SUV obsessed nation or do they think the RS4 avant will cannibalize the sales of other Audi performance models. I think North American customers most definitely got shafted by not getting this one.
