2020 Opel Corsa Is Finally All-New, Debuts Later This Year

We’ve added a new set of images of the all-new 2020 Opel Corsa (to be sold as a Vauxhall in the United Kingdom) that our spies nabbed while it was undergoing winter testing. (Update 2/25/2019)

When France’s PSA Group bought Opel and Vauxhall in 2017, the development of the next-generation Corsa was almost finished.

However, since the original 2020 Corsa project was based on a GM platform, PSA had to cancel it and develop an entirely new version on the same CMP architecture as the next-generation Peugeot 208.

Up until now Opel and Vauxhall have done a good job of keeping Corsa F prototypes under the radar but not anymore: for the first time, our photographers caught one during winter testing.

As the photos can attest, the 2020 Corsa won’t be just a rebadged version of the upcoming Peugeot 208 — although there are some similarities when it comes to the proportions. Still, Opel and Vauxhall fans can relax as the Corsa seems to carry over some of the nameplate’s signature styling cues despite the fact it’s entirely new. It was about time too, as the current model is nothing more than a facelift of the Corsa D launched in 2006.

The full body wrap does a good job of hiding the new Corsa’s key design details, but we can clearly see it has more dynamic proportions than the outgoing model thanks to the slightly wider and lower body, as well as the steeply raked tailgate window. The spied prototype was in five-door hatchback configuration; for now, a three-door body style hasn’t been confirmed.

The 2020 Corsa will obviously share powertrains with the new Peugeot 208, including the latter’s Puretech turbocharged three- and four-cylinder gasoline engines. No decision has been announced regarding diesel engines but given the current trends in the auto industry, we wouldn’t be too surprised if the new Corsa stayed away from oil burners, especially since the new model will also be available as an all-electric version.

Opel is expected to debut the all-new Corsa at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with sales likely to begin across Europe from December 2019. The Corsa EV should go on sale in mid-2020.

i hope 2nd gen peugeot 208 is ready for this year’s geneva

    Don’t like the paint color.

  • Tommc

Oh dear. That looks like a throwback to a 2004 seat Ibiza. It looks old before it’s time. Come on vauxhall, you can design something better than a box on wheels.

    So… rebadged 208?

These “scoop spy pic’s” have been up on the internet for a year now. How come itsi taken this site this long to “find” them.

That can’t be the all new generation! It looks like the car that GM was 95% the way there before PSA brought them out it doesn’t even have the design eliments of the GTX

To me it looks like the car that would have been the one that’s been scrapped before PSA designed an all new version

    • Eddy59

It looks nothing like the GM proto which was rounder, more like the current one when it comes to the shape

The Vauxhall Corsa was Britain’s third-best selling car in 2018. If PSA get it wrong, it could go really horribly wrong for them financially. Let’s hope they learnt their mistakes from their takeover of the Rootes Group.

    Nothing dramatic here. Next!

    • Jim Ragland

Lol… Or won’t see in another car.

        Exactly, Thank you!

hmm well from what I know as the little ‘Opel Corsa F next is the cousin of the PSA technical platform with the new Peugeot 208 hatchback second generation that is the French cousin of the French PSA platform so the next little Opel Corsa F will be built in Clothes Peugeot 208 second and will benefit from all normal French PSA engines because it is the ” or ” the step-brother ” ” ” ” ” of the technical platfroma of which the tiny corsa F will benefit from the French platform the French dwarf New generation Peugeot 208 hatchback, the second generation that is his brother or technical platform and with whom he divides the engine with this PSA france, so the next little Opel Corsa F will be dressed in the clothes of the small Peugeot 208 second and will also receive the French PSA to this clear the next The tiny Opel Corsa F will be built on a French-based PSA [CMP] small-hatchback platform and its length hmm think it will measure all: 4.055 millimeters long just like the French dwarf brother who recently unveiled the second generation The Peugeot 208 hatchback will also give birth to the small Opel Corsa F on the PSA platform of the French [CMP] the small hatchback class with which to divide both the PSA and the platform [Cmp] both cars because they are the brothers of the platform and the next the small Opel Corsa F and the Peugeot 208 second hatchback and both will benefit from new PSA French engines in both its hoods! I’ll give him a little rhythm as I bet he wrote this in his language (French?) and then ran it through a translator.

  • what not realistic render?

omg i was thinking exactly the same as I was watching those pictures… like… Opel belongs to PSA now and it makes me think the new Corsa will be a re-badged 208
