Woman Who Can’t Get A Deal On New Car Gets Free Scion From A Total Stranger

It’s not every day that you walk into a car dealership and walk away with a free car, but for Californian nursing student Kayla Cooper, that’s exactly what happened last week.

WHNT 19 News reports that Cooper was speaking with a salesman at Auto City in El Cajon, California, about purchasing a vehicle. However, she wasn’t able to agree to an acceptable down payment and ended up leaving the dealership in tears.

In stepped a kind chap named Dan Laguardia, who was at the same dealership to trade in his Scion and incidentally overheard Cooper’s conversation with the Auto City salesman. After watching her leave the facility, he asked for the salesman to call her back. When Cooper returned, he gave her the Scion he was planning to trade in.

“The car had more value to her than it did for me trading it in,” Laguardia commented.

According to Cooper, she didn’t believe the random act of kindness until Laguardia signed over the car’s title to her. Cooper had previously been borrowing cars from family and friends to get to her two jobs and the nursing school she attends and was expecting to lose one of her jobs if she couldn’t get a car before the end of February. Instead, she’s now the happy owner of a Scion given to her by a stranger.

“That gives her a bit of a jump start in life, which if everybody did that for everybody else, we’d be in a much better place,” Laguardia told local media.

    • Finkployd

Then you re meant to give free cars to others 💁🏻‍♂️

  • Astonman

There will be an opportunity in life for her to pay it forward and I hope she does when it arrives.

  • Shobin Drogan

Someone gave a stranger a car and they didn’t do it for the likes and views? Didn’t know this was possible in 2019…

  • Callanish

Best of luck to her. Respect to the generous man for the selfless act.

  • getoffme

    Tax free?

    • ChrisInIL

If she fills out the right form, the transfer of the title may be tax-free.

  • Momogg

This car is unsellable. This explains that.

  • alexxx

    Well done…well done…👏👏👏👏👏👏

Why was there a camera crew there? Who told the local news? – Cynical me

  • ace_9

Why no hate comments? This is the opposite of a capitalistic behaviour that americans love so much. I guess, they just don’t want to seem rude…

    • LOOK AGAIN.

      • ace_9

ok, now I see it 🙂 But I would like to live in a world where honest, working and good people would not have to be afraid about living and transportation costs or medical expenses and other things that people generally need in life. I still believe it would be possible to build such a society, but it cannot exist together with excessive greed, envy, non-grounded hate, intolerance, lack of empathy and other bad traits that most of the people have. That’s why capitalism is so popular in a world, because it benefits people with these kinds of traits at the expense of many others who often cannot live such a predatory life even if they want to.

        • Momogg

I would like as well but it’s not possible. It’s a utopia.

    • Emoto

Actually, private acts of charity, as opposed to government redistribution of wealth, are a part of capitalistic societies.

      • ace_9

Don’t be pathetic… firstly charity exists everywhere, not only in capitalistic societies and secondly, it usually solves exactly nothing and helps only a negligible fraction. I would even argue that it serves to wealthy people more than anyone else. It is not like all rich people are giving away money from their pockets. If you think they do it just for the altruism, then you don’t know how it actually works.

  • Liam Paul

that is very cool, you never know, he may one day end up in a hospital and she will be his Nurse. This story is 100 times better than those stories about Jay leno’s cars

  • Alduin

Idiot. He could’ve got like $4,000 if he sold it private party.
