Mercedes has opened the order books for its brand new CLA Coupe in Europe, with first deliveries starting in May.

Merc’s new compact four-door coupe enters its second generation featuring a dynamic design inspired by the bigger CLS and benefiting from the same technologies as its A-Class sister model.

The new Mercedes CLA Coupe is also longer and wider than its predecessor, giving it not only a more imposing look but more interior room as well.

Customers in Europe can choose between three petrol engines and one diesel. The base CLA 180 is powered by the new turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder with 134hp (136PS), while the CLA 200 uses the same engine tuned to produce 161hp (163PS). These are the only versions that come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.

The CLA 220 and CLA 250 are fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which produces 187hp (190PS) in the former and 221hp (224PS) in the latter. Both are paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and can be fitted with Mercedes’ optional 4Matic all-wheel drive system. The range is completed with the CLA 180 d, which is powered by a 114hp (116PS) 1.5-liter diesel mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In the second-gen CLA, the dashboard is similar to that of the A-Class, featuring a set of unshrouded display screens and the company’s latest MBUX multimedia system. If you, however, want the full experience, you’ll have to opt for the MBUX Innovation package, which includes the larger displays and the MBUX Interior Assistant and costs an extra 1,368 euros in Germany ($1,550 in current exchange rates).

Mercedes also offers the Progressive Line package, which adds features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a leather multifunction steering wheel, comfort seats with adjustable cushions and visible exhaust tailpipes.

If you want your CLA to look sportier, then you’ll have to opt for the AMG Line package, which adds 18-inch AMG alloys, AMG front and rear fascias together with side sills, LED headlamps, sport seats, a nappa leather sport steering wheel, a lowered suspension and more.

As standard, the new Mercedes CLA Coupe comes with Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Brake Assist. If you want more driver assistance systems, you’ll have to order the Driver Assistance package, which includes Active Distance Control Distronic, route-based speed adjustment, Active Steering Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Pre-Safe Plus.

For the first year, Mercedes will also offer the CLA Coupe in the special Edition 1 version. This is based on the AMG Line, to which it adds 19-inch alloys with orange rim flanges, orange contrast stitching, ambience lighting and a choice between five special color options.
