Chinese car manufacturer Leap Motor has provided the first images and details of its latest creation, which is an SUV concept.

Some of you may be familiar with the Leap Motor name as they launched the LP-S01 electric sports car on the Chinese market back in late 2017. It seems apparent that the production-spec version of Leap’s SUV concept will sell in greater numbers than the S01 when it hits the market.

These design sketches reveal that the Leap Motor SUV lacks a traditional front grille and incorporates a set of small headlights and LED daytime running lights. The vehicle depicted also includes a panoramic roof, exceptionally thin A-pillars and no B-pillars. At the rear, there are small taillights as well as an LED light bar stretching the width of the rear fascia.

Few details about the car are known, but Car News China reports that it will be powered by an all-electric powertrain providing a range of at least 500 km (310 miles). The SUV will also allegedly come equipped with an advanced system offering Level 3 autonomy.

It is reported that Leap Motor has already committed to bringing its electric SUV to the market and will do so in 2020.

It’s hard to keep track of all the new electric vehicles coming out of China. According to recent reports, there are upwards of 500 new-energy vehicle startups across the country, all vying to establish themselves as legitimate rivals to the likes of Tesla and various legacy car manufacturers. It remains to be seen if Leap Motor will manage to be one of them, but it will have to deliver high-quality products in order to make it.
