Nissan To Launch E-Power Models With Range-Extender In Europe By 2022

Together with the reveal of the new IMQ SUV concept, Nissan has announced that it will introduce its e-Power electrified powertrain technology in European markets by 2022.

Nissan has been enjoying great success with the e-Power technology, as it helped make the electrified Note the country’s best-selling model. The electrified powertrain provides 100 percent electric drive, with the gasoline engine tasked only with charging the battery pack, giving e-Power models instant, smooth acceleration and impressive fuel efficiency.

“Already Nissan is the world’s leader in mass-market EV technologies and a fully electrified Europe is now within our sights,” said Roel de Vries, Corporate Vice President for Nissan Motor Company. “With e-POWER arriving on European roads within the next two years, we will bring the benefits of Nissan Intelligent Mobility to more customers and keep moving people to a better world.”

Nissan plans to increase its electrified models’ sales five-fold by 2022, with the IMQ concept showcasing the potential of a European AWD-equipped crossover fitted with the e-Power technology.

Nissan is currently offering the range-extender EV powertrains only in the Note and Serena models in Japan. More than 70 percent of Note sales and almost half of Serena sales in Japan are for their e-Power versions.

The E-Power system uses the gasoline engine solely to charge the battery pack, acting as a range-extender, running it at an optimal speed for superior fuel economy and lower emissions.

Nissan also announced that sales of the battery-electric Leaf have reached a total of 400,000 units since the model’s debut, making it by far the world’s best-selling electric car. Nissan Europe will open the order books for its latest version, the Leaf e+ with a new larger 62kWh battery pack, tomorrow on March 6.
