New Nissan Sylphy Launches In Shanghai, Previews 2020 Sentra

The all-new Nissan Sylphy has just premiered at the Shanghai Auto Show, weeks after low-resolution photos of the vehicle leaked online.

The new Sylphy has a much sleeker and more refined exterior look to the vehicle it replaces. The front, for example, includes sharp headlights and fog lights in the lower portion of the bumper, as well as a black grille with a three-dimensional V-motion design. The rear also looks particularly good thanks to the presence of bold character lines on the sides of the bumper and new taillights.

Nissan says the re-designed exterior of the new Sylphy means it has a drag coefficient of just 0.26, equal to that of the Nissan GT-R.

The Japanese car manufacturer has yet to announce important powertrain details for the vehicle, except for the fact that it uses its new HR16DE Gen 3 intelligent drive engine mated to an Xtronic transmission. Additional details about this powertrain will likely be announced as the Shanghai Auto Show progresses.

Moving to the interior and you’ll find that the latest Nissan Sylphy offers seating for five people and will be offered with black, light grey, or tan trimmings. Found in the center of the dashboard is an 8-inch infotainment screen while there is a smaller 7-inch digital gauge cluster.

Other important technologies incorporated into the new car include Intelligent Trace Control, Intelligent Ride Control, and Emergency Brake for Pedal Misapplication. There’s also Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Driving Alert.

Prices for the new Nissan Sylphy haven’t been announced.

man could they try any harder to have the interior look like a knock off of a Mercedes and a bad knock off at that, also that carbon fiber look around the door window and lock switches look like cheap tape and exterior is a total bore. Its not ugly but it’s nothing exciting

    • Jason Miller

      It’s not tape.

    • ha ha, yea go ahead and complain, this car just blow away the civic design and mazda getting nervous, what wrong with cheap car taking an expensive car look, this is great doing by nissan.

      • paulgdeaton

The front end is overdone; the “floating roof” is becoming very cliche, and does not look good on small sedans; the rear end looks like any one of a dozen other cars out there. And the enterior looks like some 6-year-old built it out of Lego pieces.

It is a cheap car taking a really cheap car look.

        • that your opinion, but as I read the articles on the internet many are disagreeing with you and think honda has a big challenge, and as the sentra is the best selling car in china in it class, with this new one is check mate civic.

      • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

        This looks like absolute trash.

No one cares about the Sentra other than poor people with no credit or Hertz and Enterprise looking for more rental cars. The same rule applies to the Versa.

Both of those vehicles are also-rans that continually lose comparison tests and have some of the lowest owner satisfaction in their segment. Junk.

        • you can speak for yourself, nobody care for the sentra because nissan have not done a good design and with under power engines for along time, but as the author put it this new sentra is different with technology would not be find at rental, maybe the basic cheap out one, but especially those two tone colour ones, is look so good, all that left is making sure they carry that turbo engines and continue offer manual. so you can continue post your hate, the sentra has definitely move on to higher heights and turning heads.

        • Jason Miller

          • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

            No thanks.

          • Carl Sloan

Ummm… the World doesn’t revove around YOU, ‘tard. If tou don’t like a comment, do us all a favor and keep scrolling.

        • Alex

haha. Yes, the Sentra is for poor people with no credit score. I only have an 800 Fico Score and a decent income for being 25. Also, I guess these car are “junk” as you call it. My 2 year old Sentra just turned 63,00- never had an issue. People buy these cars for reliable and comfortable commuter cars. I’ve done all the maintenance required, my car still drives like it did when I bought it new.

  • Astonman

    Wow! Nice interior!

  • Nordschleife

I can dig the front and the interior gets my seal of approval but that rear end is very dowdy.

  • Six_Tymes

really like this inside and out, EXCEPT for the nav screen monitor, oh how I despise the take on look/design. so annoying and detracting while driving. But, my wife wont mind

  • Wow, best-looking Sentra in forever!

  • Brabusbus

Very big improvement inside and out!

  • charlotteharry57

Don’t go getting all over excited. Bet we don’t get all the upmarket touches seen on this one (like the quilted leather seating). We should know in 24-48 hours. Looking good, though.

  • YUDHA BAGASKARA

this could be the next gen sentra

  • Shobin Drogan

This is the first time in my life that I wanted a Sentra!

  • Wandering_Spirit

Very nice. Doesn’t even look like a Nissan

  • Dennis Scipio

I wasn’t expecting circular air vents in the dash, though in think the overall package is nice.

  • DetrinKD

I am truly shocked at the interior! I was not expecting anything like that at all. Its actually pretty clever how they used A LOT of parts from the new Altima, yet it doesn’t look exactly the same. Overall, yes this is the best looking Sentra in a long time… ha, actually as far as I can remember. The rear end is kinda soft and I don’t see any LED DRL’s up front, which is weird in this day and age.

  • Brian Regan

Wow. Well done Nissan this is a huge improvement.

  • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

This is going to be released in the US as an also-ran just like the past three Sentras have been.

This offers absolutely nothing over the Civic or Mazda3.

    • I beg to differ, the car already has better design than civic, and the interior looks good, the US spec is not even release. They do not use 1.6 HR engine in the USA, so you have nothing to compare or say it offers nothing.

      • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

Your opinion is worthless and other than the GT-R, Nissan makes absolutely nothing worthwhile. They manufacture rental fodder and produce vehicles for the credit challenged.

Also, a 240HP engine in the weak Sentra is going to do absolutely nothing to the 300hp Civic Type R, or other established players in the game such as the Golf R, Focus ST,/RS Leon Cupra R, etc.

        • ha ha the 1.8 liter by alliance makes 300 HP now running around the famous test track going for the record in the Renault megane RS T.

        • go google nissan pulsar nismo on the world famous nurbg tracks, maybe it can educate U.

          • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

“from 2014 even before honda even dream of the civic”

This is not English and doesn’t make sense. No one cares about Nissan…

          • alexxx

            I love Nissan…
            So…

    • paulgdeaton

Agreed. As much as I dislike the Civic, the Sentra is worse. The front end is overdone; the “floating roof” is becoming very cliche, and does not look good on small sedans; the rear end looks like any one of a dozen other cars out there. And the enterior looks like some 6-year-old built it out of Lego pieces.

Honda and Mazda dealers have nothing to fear… unless they want to sell to totally blind and tasteless customers…

      • designer_dick

If the Sylphy’s interior looks like a six-year-old child built it out of Lego pieces, then the Civic’s interior looks like it was put together by a toddler using Duplo.

      • Jason Miller

Disagree 100%. But then you are the expert with your baseless opinion from looking at photos on the internet.

        • paulgdeaton

And you have seen it in the flesh… or are you the expert with your baseless opinion from looking at photos on the internet?

          • Jason Miller

            What if I have?

          • paulgdeaton

Then I would say you must be a Nissan employee… shilling for some very undesirable cars…

  • DM

A big improvement over the current one. It actually looks good. Just ditch the faulty CVTs.

  • .. EL CHAPO THA GREAT 🤴🏻

New Altima, Sentra or the Versa?

    • new nissan sentra

      • :/ Yurr

Nissan sentra. Altima looks bland compared to this.

  • WalthamDan

A huge improvement over the previous Sentras. Just wonder if using the same basic styling for the Versa, Sentra and Altima will work for Nissan. In a couple of year they will all become stale and probably require larger incentive to move.

  • FlameWater

OOOOoooooooooo EEEEEE!!!! I see a Civic eater XD

  • Dude

    Looks good

  • alexxx

    This looks nice inside out…👍👍👍
