The BMW M3 is rightfully considered one of the most iconic performance cars ever built and prices of previous-generation models are beginning to soar.

The first generation of M3 was the E30, first released for the 1986 model year. Fitted with either a 2.3- or 2.5-liter inline-four cylinder engine, depending on the year and version, the E30 M3 garnered great reviews and quickly became a collectible. As a result, prices went through the roof for nice examples – and this particular car that’s currently for sale on Bring A Trailer, with the online auction ending in less than 30 minutes!

It is a 1988 model and is finished in a shade of black officially dubbed Diamantschwarz Metallic (for non-German speakers, Diamond Black Metallic). The vehicle retains most of its original exterior components but does sit on a set of 16-inch aftermarket alloy wheels with BFGoodrich tires. An aftermarket tint has also been applied.

Perfectly matching the black exterior is a cabin clad in black leather upholstery across parts including the seats and door panels. Despite the vehicle’s age, the interior seems to be in reasonable condition.

This M3 is powered by a 2.3-liter inline-four engine that was rebuilt in 2016 at a cost of $12,600. During the rebuild, the powerplant’s head gasket, piston rings, main bearings, rod bearings, timing chain tensioners, rails and valve guides were all replaced. Mated to this engine is a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission.

The car is currently located in Calgary, Canada. At around 140,000 km (87,000 miles), its mileage is quite high, although the ad states it has only been driven roughly 200 km (124 miles) since its engine rebuild. The highest bid sits at $33,333; so, if you’re interested, you’d better hurry before this well dries up.
