Last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix was the typical procession which it usually is with Lewis Hamilton clinching another win and extending his championship lead.

While there were a few exciting on-track battles during the race, perhaps the stand-out moment of the Grand Prix was when Racing Point driver Sergio Perez almost ran over a pair of track marshals on the circuit.

Footage posted by the Mexican racing driver shows him exiting the pit lane on the tight streets of the principality as any driver ordinarily would. However, there was a pair of marshals crossing the track and picking up debris at the same time. Perez was forced to hit the brakes on his F1 car while one of them ran in front of him and the other was left standing in the center of the track to let the car pass through.

Perez immediately jumped on his team radio after the near-miss and asked “What was wrong with those marshals? I nearly killed them.”

If Perez and the two marshals weren’t as quick to react as they were, the two men could have easily been hit by the Racing Point car.

Incidents like these serve as a reminder that it’s not just the drivers of Formula One cars who risk their lives competing. A number of track marshals have been killed at F1 races over the decades, including a man who was hit by a recovery vehicle at the Canadian Grand Prix back in 2013.
