Taking your car into the dealership can be a bit of a hassle, but Ford is working to eliminate that problem by testing a new mobile maintenance and repair service.

Dubbed Ford Mobile Service, the pilot program will see technicians travel in vans to meet customers at their home, office or just about anywhere else. Once on site, technicians can perform a handful of basic maintenance and service procedures.

While the mobile service won’t be able to handle complex repairs, Ford says research has shown that people like the idea and some would even consider switching to Ford products “solely based on mobile service.”

The pilot program is currently underway in California and will soon expand to Florida, Illinois, New Jersey and Texas. If the program continues to be successful, it could be expanded even further in the future.

Mobile service isn’t the only thing Ford is working on as the company has introduced a new customer loyalty program called FordPass Rewards. Billed as the “most comprehensive loyalty rewards program in the industry,” FordPass Rewards will give customers points on purchases that can be used to redeem complimentary maintenance, parts and service. The points can even be used towards the purchase of another vehicle.

Ford is aiming to improve the ownership experience in other ways such as streamlining the leasing process and opening a new call center in Texas. The latter will have a group of specialized employees who are solely dedicated to serving truck owners. Call center employees will be tied to a particular customer so owners won’t have to deal with multiple people or departments.

Ford is also revamping dealership showrooms with a “new retail look and experience” called Ford Signature. These modern dealerships will eschew traditional deal desks for so-called “purchase rooms” which have shared screens for dealership employees and customers. The dealerships will also have “celebration areas” for new vehicle deliveries and high-tech service centers with monitors showing prices and video of the service garage.
