A new spy video of the upcoming Chevrolet C8 Corvette has come across our desks and this one is particularly exciting as it allows us to hear the rumble of the new mid-engined sports car.

This clip, shared by Corvette Blogger, shows a camouflaged C8 Corvette prototype driving in the middle lane of a three-lane highway in Detroit. As the driver looks to move over to the right-most lane of the highway, they accelerate away from the car filming, letting the V8 engine roar. It sounds very nice indeed.

It’s impossible to know what engine the following C8 Corvette prototype has but we suspect it is the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 which will sit at the base of the range. This engine was used by the C7 Corvette but will be upgraded for the C8 to nearer the 500 hp mark. Chevrolet is expected to sell the C8 with a number of different powertrains but all will be V8s and all promise to emit truly intoxicating exhaust notes.

It’s believed that the V8 engine of the C8 will be paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. It remains to be seen if Chevrolet will sell the new ‘Vette with a stick shift but we suspect they will at some stage during its production run.

A handful of different versions will be sold alongside the base C8, expected to be dubbed the ‘Stingray’. These could include a twin-turbo V8 version as well as a twin-turbo V8 model aided by an electric motor to churn out upwards of 1000 hp.
