Polestar Looking To Make Full Use Of Google’s Android OS

Volvo’s Polestar brand has introduced a new platform encouraging Android developers to create innovative in-car digital experiences. Meanwhile, the Polestar 2 is one of the first cars ever to feature an infotainment system powered by Google’s Android operating system.

The automaker wants developers to visit their dedicated website by clicking here and share new ideas and concepts that would serve to improve in-car infotainment throughout the industry.

“The Android platform which we have introduced in Polestar 2 has so much potential for innovation that we immediately identified the chance to engage with the developer community,” stated Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath. “Together with Google, our own digital team has created an exciting interface in the car, and we know that this system will enable great opportunities. We look forward to inspiring new ideas that could make the digital experience in Polestar 2 even better.”

Polestar also wants us to imagine an immersive music experience that intelligently adapts to our journey, or seamlessly finding and paying for parking without having to leave our cars, which at one point will be able to brief us about appointments and news stories during the commute. All these things can be made possible thanks to Google’s software.

“We paired with Google in the first place because we want to collaborate with the best.”

Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is the company’s first fully electric, high volume premium model designed to compete against the Tesla Model 3. Power will come from two electric motors combining for 402 HP (300 kW) and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque, plus a 78 kWh battery pack for markets outside of China – resulting in a targeted range of 275 (EPA), or 500 km (WLTP).

I wonder if Volvo knows what name “Polestar” could be interpreted as here in the US? I guess we will find out when they start giving their cars real names…. Like “Jade”, “Crystal” or “Amber”.

That is the absolute dreariest car interior I’ve ever seen. The terrible iPad integration looks like a total afterthought. The exterior isn’t much better. It’s clunky and awkward, like an old AMC Eagle.

I’m just a little concerned about the “Skynet iPhone” that’s connected to the car in the pics…

Why not just focus on developing and selling your new re-badged Volvo instead of worrying about Anroid.

No, NOT Android! 🙁 Hate Anroid and IOS.
