Watch The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Set New Lap Record At Road America

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has added another production car lap record to its resume after lapping the Road America track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, in a blistering 2:15.17.

Fresh off setting lap records at Road Atlanta, Willow Springs and Laguna Seca, Porsche brought its most extrene 911 to Road America with 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans class winner David Donohue behind the wheel.

After just two laps, Donohue set the record-breaking time on a pair of ultra sticky, yet factory-optional and street-legal, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R N0 tires. While at the track, Porsche also set a new 911 GT3 RS loose, which set an impressive lap time of 2:18.57.

Reading about the GT2 RS’s various racetrack records reminds us of the Dodge Viper ACR achieving similar feats just a few short years back. Only the Viper was axed, while the 911 is doing better than ever…

Powering the ultimate road-going 911 is a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six pumping out 690 hp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels courtesy of a PDK dual-clutch transmission. Other key aspects of the car that make it so fast around a racetrack include the suspension setup and aero pack.

Perhaps the GT2 RS’s most prized accolade is the production car lap record around the Nurburgring in Manthey Racing guise, which has the exact same power and transmission as the stock car, but comes with track-optimized aero, suspension, wheels and tires.
