Hot on the heels of the unveiling of the 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody, Dodge has announced plans to run a one-off version at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Set to be entered into the Exhibition class, the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody concept will be driven by Pikes Peak veteran Randy Pobst.
Since this is a race, the car has been developed in cooperation with Wesley Motorsports. It features a number of modifications including a specially tuned, supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine with a race exhaust. The company didn’t go into specifics, but said the engine has been modified to “maintain power at the upper altitudes of the Pikes Peak run.”
Regardless of the race car’s output, the standard model has 707 hp (527 kW / 717 PS) and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h). The model can also run the quarter-mile in 10.96 seconds and pull .96 g on the skidpad.
Besides the changes under the hood, the Widebody concept has been equipped with a roll cage, a racing seat and a fuel cell. The model also rides on 20- by 11-inch wheels which are wrapped in Toyo Proxes RR DOT competition tires. They are backed up by a high-performance braking system with Pagid RST 1 racing pads and high-temperature brake fluid.
Last but not least, the model features a custom livery created by the FCA US Product Design Office. It pays tribute to the concept which was originally unveiled at SpringFest 14 earlier this year.
The Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody concept won’t be alone this weekend as Dodge is also fielding a race-prepped Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. The car will compete in the Time Attack 1 class and be driven by Kevin Wesley.
